Hi guys.

I want to buy a Dreambox but please I need your help on choosing that.
DM800 or DM7020 ?
Original or Cloned one?

P.S. I intend to use them for streaming purposes (over LAN for some PCs), with Sly or Digilalb cards.

What about DM500s, will it do the trick?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

Hi,

All DMs will stream over a LAN and currently all can clear both Sly and Digitalb.

DM800/500HD vs 7020 comes down to your requirement (now and in future) for HD streams. 800 vs 500HD really depends on how much you like being able to do things like change your tuner, have USB for external card readers or memory sticks or have an internal hard drive as the 800 can do all these things but the 500 cannot.

Also, might you want to watch more than one program at a time - if you do, you will want a twin tuner model such as the 8000 (there are cheaper, non-DM options you should investigate if this is needed).

Original vs cloned is a much harder question to answer. Originals come with better support but cost more, whilst clones can be much cheaper but depending on where you buy them, if things go wrong, you may be on your own. Also, with clones, you need to be very careful as to which software you use as it doesnt all work and in the past some images have had "timebombs" which have cripples clones whilst leaving originals running fine.

The DM500S is no longer produced, so clone is the only option. It will read both cards you mentioned and can stream across a LAN.

If you only want SD, not HD, then you could also look at getting a DM600PVR which can take an internal hard drive (2.5inch) but it is Enigma1 based whereas all the new dreamboxes use Enigma2. I prefer the DM500HD over the DM800 as the DM800 has an overheating problem that gets aggravted if you install an internal hard disk. The DM500HD also seems more stable in normal operation. If you need a multi-tuner then the only dreambox model available is the DM8000. You could try and pick up an old DM7025 (SD only) off fleabay.

I would never buy a clone as they are stealing intellectual property and selling it for their own profit. If DreamMultimedia lose enough sales because of clones, they will go out of business, and as the clone manufacturers don't design new technology, we will be stuck without new boxes becoming available (3D is on the horison). And none of the other STB manufacturers have provided as good a line of STBs that has been as well supported as DMM.

When you say for 'some PCs'? Be careful of the bandwidth required depending on how many PCs simultaneously.
