Priscilla White, better known as Cilla Black, has died in Spain.

She started in the 60s as part of the Merseybeat boom and was one of Brian Epstein's signed acts along with The Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J Kramers, etc.

Later, as her singing career waned she went into TV as a presenter. Not one of my favourite periods but she was very popular with the public for Blind Date and Surprise, Surprise.

That was deliberate. It was John Lennon's pet name for her.
 
Not one of my favourites but at least she could sing and used had talent. I still remember he number ones.
 
RIP Cilla...liked her earlier hit recordings but detested her tacky TV shows....sad loss at a relatively young age though...
 
Yes RIP Cilla, again I was a lover of her music but not her presenting but many were, she gavem a loralora laughs

I always liked her music. I remember her as if it was yesterday....How time flies...Rip Cilla.

I though I'd resurrect this thread to post a couple of pictures of the statue of Cilla that was unveiled yesterday outside the Cavern.

Looking at the statue more closely than could be seen on the TV shows that the body is a reasonable copy of her early look but, as with most statues, there's something not quite right with the face. I never thought of her teeth as being a particularly identifying feature but the statue appears to have Ken Dodd's! Similarly the nose doesn't seem to be quite right. The hair bob is good though.

The statue was unveiled by her family and coincided with the 60th anniversary of the Cavern Club's opening. There was a private party inside with various friends and earlier performers. The only name I garnered was Gilbert O'Sullivan.

Don't forget she had plastic surgery to 'remodel' her nose, maybe the sculptor used a photo pre nose job. Possibly she had her teeth done too....
 
Yes, I remember when she had the bump taken out but it didn't seem right for either version. Here's a clip from another photo I took; unfortunately it's quite poor but it does at least show the profile. (And Ken's teeth).
