Someone on the Radio just mentioned Minstrels.

For some reason, my mind produced thoughts of Old English Spangles (ordinary Spangles were also available).

What were your favourite sweets that sadly appear no longer to be available today - or, like Marathon and Opal Fruits, have been "re-branded"?

I love Drifters. (A Twix type bar) Not fully discontinued, I find them in the local supermarket occasionally

Hard to say as I'm not 'au fait' with the selection of confectionery available in the UK now. Pear drops were a favourite and Blue Bird Orange and Lemon slices, both of which you can't possibly get here. I do miss Caramac and Fry's Cream, either mint or fruit.

Most ones from my childhood are still on the shelves. Favourites were Lion and Picnic, along with Snickers. All available still but am partial to Bounty now.

I did like Nuts but I never see it in UK any more, though I do still see it around Europe and in Russia.

Whenever I get to enjoy various sweets and chocolates, they tend to disappear from the shelves. Recently, Fox's Echo Mint bars ceased production, then Rolo Chocolate Biscuit bars, both a favourite, both gone.

Going back (a long way back), Fry's Five Boys - a boy in various stages of emotion from sad to happy embossed on every bar section IIRC - well it was the 50's.

Also, anyone for Tiffin?

Wasn't 'Five Boys' a sandwich of milk and dark chocolate?.....oh, and I've just remembered Rasberry Ruffles

Two bars that are no longer around. Cadbury's Bar Six, which I prefered to the similar Kit-Kat, and Coffee Crisp (not to be confused with Toffee Crisp), possibly also from Cadbury's.

I still buy Revels on occasion. My favourite centre is the orange one! Least favourite is the toffee.

Love-Hearts and Swizzell's Fizzers are definitely still very much around.

Yup you can still get the Love Hearts, I've seen how they're made, I watched it on Food Factory on Discovery Science, they're made in Canada

Indeed apart from love hearts still being available they have tapped into the personalised market and will put a celebratory wrapper around them now at a cost of course and you can also have the sweets made with your own suggestions of wording. I have seen both types of personalised love hearts, just had a look I used to have a photo but am unable to find it

There is a shop in Guisbrough that does a fair few of the classic pick and mix sweets, Sugar and Spice on Church Street, he's delivered to me at home (and at work s few times) after hours via the just eat website
