After several messages back and forth with HMSat they assured me their SuperJack products are genuine.
I placed an order and the actuator arrived with me today, it doesn't even have a brand name, let alone SuperJack or SuperPowerJack!

I have two of those in the pictures.
The label make no difference. There are no "genuine" SuperJacks anymore. I think it's time to let go of the notion of "genuine".
SuperJack used to be marketed under the Jaeger brand, but that has been ping-ponged around for a bit, and now seems to be owned by Taiwanese company. Other companies wanting to *sell* (not manufacture), will need to call their products something else (like "SuperPowerJack").

There seems to be one or two manufacturers of satellite actuators spitting these things out in volume in the far east. So whichever the label, the jacks mostly originate in the same factory.
However, this does not means jacks are jacks.
When you buy stuff in volume, mostly made to order, you can get to decide not only what the label says ("extreme power jack"?), but also a whole range of engineering parameters that ultimately influence cost: Bearing types, metal type and thickness used, gear material, motor source (manufacturer), seal types and specs, the whole shebang.
And even after all that, my experience with far-east manufacturers is that you still may not get what you ordered - different quality components having been used, different mechanical designs etc.

So... I think that SuperJacks these days are remnants of the old days - most new jacks of roughly the same price are roughly the same performance. If you want long-life service and high-performance, you need to acquire higher quality (10x price) professional actuators like Thomson-Saginaw or some of the other American brands (eg Von Weise).

But still, the old adage holds true: You get what you pay for...

That makes perfect sense, HMSat should have been aware of this and should not have told me they are genuine, if i'd known it would be one of these I would have just bought it in the UK for a lot less money.

Who was it on here that had the one from satellite superstore where the thing had major play in it and other design weaknesses?

Here's VS's moan about them - from SSS!

Actuators AGAIN ...

It's worth reading the whole thread. Bottom line: if you want quality - import from US. As many criticisms as one might have about the Yanks, they certainly make some truly quality satellite equipment. From a country where everything is "the bigger, the better" - and in this case, they are right.

How the hell can they claim this? The fact it's not branded in any way as a SuperJack on the unit alone says it all, what are they just blind selling these things? Is Stevie Wonder their stock buyer?

On a related note, is there enough interest to carry out a small group buy of Venture actuators from the USA. To make it worthwhile and for cost efficiency on postage I would estimate at least 4 to 5 actuators would be required.

They are not cheap so its not for dreamers and skinflints, prepare to dig deep into the Sky Rocket.

The 24" Venture would be overkill for a 1.2m dish but they are much better quality than any of the Chinese crap. I had some issues with mine but none that weren't sorted.

CJ,

I was thinking more for some of the potential "Big Dish Men", a couple of forum members might be migrating status from a "Small Dish Man" to a "Big Dish Man" in the near future. No worries if there is not enough interest, it will save me the bother of sorting it out.

I agree with your comment though, a 24" Venture actuator is overkill for a small dish like a 1.2m channel master.
