Cloning HDD to SSD

I have an old PC (built in 2013) with Windows 7 and 500GB WD hard disk.
I am just wondering if it would be worth it to clone the hard disk to SSD.
What improvements would I expect to see?
Any recommendations for the SSD that you have experience with?
And the software to use.
Thanks for all comments.

Hi

New SSD's are often shipped with a software utility that clones your existing HDD to the SSD connected to the PC by a USB cable. If you purchase a second user SSD, you should be able to download the software from the SSD vendors website.

I have used several makes and found both Crucial and Samsung to be OK. If you go for a Samsung, the "..Evo.." versions are OK.

Never had issues cloning from mechanical drives to SSD with a clone dock ..
A most useful tool/weapon to have in the arsenal.
Both for imaging and cloning.
I have various variations ..
IDE/SATA
SATA/SATA
and and old 2.5 inch IDE to SATA
for what they cost ..I wouldn't NOT have at least one version.
Orico being my favourite.
rgds

..as well as being useful for general useage ...I use my Sata/Sata to periodically back up my main PC O/S ..
If I get a virus or infected with malware ...I can just swap back to a working version and overwrite the infected HD ...
Takes a couple of hours for a large drive ..but so easy ..
A straight swap.
It does of course require having 2 identical sized HDs to swap between.

Thanks.
What improvements can I expect to see?
Faster Boot and access time..
..and of course ..less prone to mechanical failure due to a knock or fall..

Thanks.
What improvements can I expect to see?
I upgraded my two PCs and my laptop to SSDs, all went well and the startup times were vastly improved.

I put one in my 8 year old Dell last year, from pressing the power button to opening a web page is about 40 seconds.
Best money I have ever spent on my lappy.

SSD's are well worth the investment especially to keep a pc a few years old going.

At work we had some elderly units in some of the craft rooms for registration purposes. Word went out registration should be done in the first 5 minutes of each lesson. Ah - these were taking anything up to 15 minutes to start from cold!

SSD's improved this to an acceptable 2 minutes. :D

Im slowly moving all my pc's laptops around the home over to SSD's for the primary drive. The older drives are salvaged, wiped & put into caddys for further occasional use.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

I've got 4x SSDs, though only 3x in use at the moment, one in my daily driver laptop and two in my gaming desktop (one for boot, one for game storage), read speeds are much faster than with an HDD, as mentioned bootup times are considerable shorter, and, quite useful to me, if you're a butterfingers with a laptop, you're less likely to lose data from dropping it... :)

The 4th drive is unused at the moment cos being quite old now it seems to have slowed down (that or it wasn't actually meeting the specs claimed), so that'll be relegated to something else when I figure out what that might be... :D

Thanks for all the comments. I have added SSD to my list of parts to order when I have some money to spare.
I will definitely use it if I decide to build a new PC instead of upgrading the present one.
