Sad news indeed. Part of my chlidhood watching those two. He had an antique shop in his retirement a couple of villages over from here. Lovely guy.

RIP Ronnie, all the greats are going but that is life. Superb entertainer, we will never see his type again. His shows bought pleasure and laughter to millions.

Agreed, a huge loss, irreplacable.

The Two Ronnies often seemed - superficially - to be "all tits 'n bums" (the "classic" British dirty postcards obsesssion, Benny Hill, Carry on films, etc). But, if you look at the quality of writing, it was extremely high, many of the sketches being intellectually very witty (something you'd usually associate more with Fry and Laurie, etc).

I wasn't too fond of his "situational" humour, eg Open All Hours, but certainly Barker was "inspired" casting in Porridge.

A very sad loss indeed. But we can be grateful that he has left so much for us to remember him by.

Agree Jimbo, apparently the Two Ronnies attracted audience of 1/3 of the viewing population when they were first shown. :)

One of the few comedians that I don't mind watching again and again and again. (maybe I should get Sky!)

I like the 'Clarence' series (think that's what it was called) where he actually slept with nurse Gladys!

Porridge, Open all hours, Two Ronnies the list goes on.

Sorry to say Ronnie Corbett was lost without him - anyone agree?

The Two Ronnies sketches are still as funny today as when they were first shown 30 years ago. :) The Fork Handles sketch is still an absolute classic.

Ive tagged a poll onto the thread. You have 1 month to choose your favourite Ronnie Barker show. Lets see which programme is the #1 with the forum folks.

As usual if theres an option missing, dont vote - ask here & one of the mods will add it for you.

I'm old enough to remember 'The Navy Lark' radio sitcom - I believe it was Ronnie's first regular appearance.

I've added 'The Frost Report' - If only for the classic 'I know my place' sketch.
