Hi all,

I just wanted some opinions. I am pouring a concrete base for a 1.5 meter dish. The ground stand is 1 metre tall and 100mm diameter and there is a 1224 motor. So far I have dug a square hole, 800mm by 800mm and 600mm deep. Is this big enough to be stable?
 
I'd say that was enough for a 1m pole x 1.5m dish.

It does depend on the concrete & the soil surrounding it and if it is completely free standing or linked/ anchored to another building. If the soil was really (really) soft throughout, over a few years it could move a bit, but I can't see that and you should be able to adjust if it did anyway. You could add some steel reinforcing bars.

Sounds OK to me.
 
800x800x600 deep sounds ok for a 150cm dish that low to the ground.

Is a 1m ground stand high enough?

I haven't had it all together yet but I guess it is. The dish goes down about 60cm from the mounting point and up about 1 metre. I'm at 38 North so the mount points up just over 50 degrees, and this is giving another 30cm or so to the mount height.
 
oh yes I see your alot further South than us Northerners :)

just so we have it clear... by ground stand, you do mean a set on stand that will be bolted onto the slab... or do you mean a pole that is set in the concrete?
 
Have a look at the image. Also, you will be able to see what I mean about the extra height the motor gives. The motor angle is correct like that.

That's going to be a nice setup Huevos ....

While you have the bottom of the hole exposed you can add some mini piles - steel bars/ pipe- anything handy... hammered into the ground c. 1m* and left sticking up c. 3-400mm for the concrete to lock round- not vital but easily done at that stage and handy if you did go for a bigger dish later....

(*providing there are no pipes or power cables in the ground).
