Hello all .. I've just got a Fortec Passion+ off Ebay to replace my old $ky digibox.

Very pleased thus far but I'm confused by an issue with "Fixed" dishes.

I have a bog-standard dish pointing at 28.2° - so how come I can get channels from Hotbird, Eutelsat and Astra at other co-ordinates ?

Also, does this mean that a dual or quad LNB will pick up more Satellites in a wider arc - thereby meaning I may not need to go motorised ?

Can someone please explain this for one who is hard of understanding ?

The simple answer is you can't, if your dish is pointing at Astra 2, 28.2E, then you can only pick up channels from that satellite, irrespective of what your receiver is telling you.
Your receiver might say that you are viewing a channel on hotbird, 13E, but in reality you are viewing a channel on 28.2E with a similar frequency.
The only way to get more channels is by either using a motorized dish, a different dish pointing at another satellite or a fixed dish with multiple LNB's pointing at other satellites.

You can't actually get the other satellite's channels, what you are seeing is the information that is stored on the receiver about these channels. To get these other channels you need either a movable dish or several fixed dishes (or a single dish with many LNBs on it) pointing at the different satellites.

The frequencies in question are reused many times over across the satellite arc by all the different satellites that are up there. A dual (twin) or quad LNB will not pick up more satellites - it will simply supply a feed from a single satellite to more than one receiver. You may be confusing this with a monobloc LNB which is special type of LNB which is esentilly two LNBs fused together so that when pointed at a dish they each "see" a different satellite.
