My Satellite Setup
sky hd
spiderbox 9000hd with motorised dish.
My Location
Derry/Donegal
I did an installation today, everything in working order except when connecting to the internet. my question is if i dont use homeplugs is there a limit to the length of cat 5 cable i use from the modem to the spiderbox?

There shouldnt be any limit in a domestic environment. Cat 5 is rated up to at least 100m at 100 mbps data transfer rate

its only 50m so thats what i thought, if there is a password on the modem would that be an issue

Shouldnt be - its just a flow of electrons after all.

I don't know why you are waisting your time with all that cable thingy stuff! I'm using Devolo dLAN Highspeed Ethernet II adaptors and my creepy crawly box works just fine!

Did you check the patch cables to and from the homeplugs, if that's what you installed?

If your doing an outside cat5 run, don't forget to use external cat5 cable uV resistant.

For what it's worth Spiderbox doesn't need anything more than 85mbps in fact it's far less. My router is in an upstairs office, my box is in the lounge (ground floor).

If your router is configured for you to use on the web with a pc then the SB will be ok providing you have carried the correct setup proceedure!

Check your router firewall also check windows firewall, but before that you should be able to check network settings on box
