Controlling a diseqc motor via loop through, Possible? Advisable?

My Satellite Setup
DM 600-S, VU+ Duo,
Moteck SG2100, Fracarro Penta 85 dish, LG LH3000 42" TV + some computers
My Location
NW, Ireland
Id like to be able to control my motorized dish from whichever box I'm using at any given time.

I've got my dual feeds from my LNB fed straight to my AB IPbox 900. The motor feed is then looped through to my DM600.

I've got both boxes set up to use USALS.

At the minute, telling the dreambox to move the dish to anohter sat does nothing. The motor doesn't budge. I seem to remember that this worked for me before while using a loop through with two DM600s.

I dont entirely understand how USALS / DiSEqC 1.3 works.
As in, if when I told the DM600 to move it from Sat A to Sat B it actually did move. Would I be confusing the IPbox which still thinks its on sat A? If I subsequently asked the IPbox to move the motor to Sat C, will it think its moving from A to C and send the wrong signals?
 
As long as you turn off the main box it should be fine. I have my TM600 linus looped through to a TM5200, works no probs, as long as the TM600 is OFF.
 
HI is the IP box turned of whilst you are trying to move the dish with the DB? I used to have my DB 500s connected to the motor and then looped through to my Humax Freesat box, the Humax drove the dish OK, but only when the DB was turned of. If you leave the box which is connected directly to the motor on, it is always going to receive the signal if both boxes are turned on and the same goes for driving the dish. Your IP box needs to be on stand by for the DB to drive the dish, or receive a signal for that matter.

a position code is sent from the receiver and the motor (If like SG2100) has a uP and memory. The motor moves to the last code sent and stays there until another code is sent. USALS should work in 2 receivers. You can place a diplexer with a single output to the motor and use switches for multiple LNBF.
 
Until a few months ago I had a Kaon KSF200 and a Silvercrest SL65 looped together and used either as Motor Controller without problems, subject to remembering to put the unused box into standby (Which didn't always happen! Fortunately, nothing nasty happened as a result).

does someone tried to controll the same diseqec motor,and dish over a 2 way swtich,with 2 receivers variantly?

normaly in should work i think,but i dont try it yet!
when the start satellite is the same,before i turn on the 2.stb,i dont see any problems of the 0 point postion of the motor,why it should not work!

with the old nokia satscan,i have a lot of problems in the past,when i was using a old grundig twin lnb that takes power up to 250 ma,the 8003 s controll box swtiched allways off,after changing the lnb it was okay!

the combination of staab hh 100 motor and incacom lnbs are very bad,always when the motor begin to move,comes to much power from the stb to the lnb,and then you got a shortcut,because the invacom is to sensitive in high voltage

also very important,espasaly when the cable ways are longer are the power output level of the lnb port itself,on some diseqec swtiches,with older lnbs i got a lot of problems,because the voltage output of every stb is not exaxtly the same,over 30 m of cable with some stb/receiver,/combinations i got problems then!

I noticed after posting that when the receiver connected directly to the motor was in standby, the second receiver turned the motor without any problems.

The DM600 will be the least used receiver, so based on the above, I think I'll change things a little so that it will be the receiver directly connected to the motor.

Thanks for the info Satcom1.

If I understand you correctly, the receiver doesn't keep track of where the motor is and just tells it to go to position N when it needs to move.
 
I've been using two receivers on the same motor for a while now, the Qbox and the dreambox. As long as one is on standby when the other is trying to move the dish it works ok. If I powe up the Qbox while watching the dreambox, it interferes with the signal. But, it does work without a problem.
