Creating a simple plan building layout drawing in word

I need to create a very basic line drawing layout of a property in a word document when creating our quotes for customers and including the location of equipment to be installed can this be done directly in word or is there a specialist software that's free or cheap for doing this?

Gawd, at first reading I thought Google were expanding into the world of sauces and relishes ....................
 
Ah yes google sketchup - its used for basic CAD in schools (we use it) so will probably do what you want it to. (and its free :) )
 
There are free and pro versions. Sounds like you downloaded the pro version.
 
Excel is good for drawing plans. It is obviously not a professional drawing tool, but it does the job.

If you already have Word you should have Excel for free.

I will have to announce my ignorance of this, I use Excel for spreadsheets but perhaps this is available on a newer version than mine but would love to know how as my version does not even have a draw function in Excel let alone the ability to do plans.
 
Excel is clearly not the same as the professional drawing programs that other people have suggested in this thread. It might not be the best for you if you have a lot of separate drawings to do. But, it is free if you already have Word/Office on your PC.

All Excel versions for at least 15 years to my knowledge have the drawing function. That gives you lines, curves, shapes and formatting for these objects. It helps to have a basic knowledge of Excel to be able to use the commands quickly.

Ah yes the simple toolbar on the bottom of the page, where I had unticked every item so it was not displaying, thinking why would I want to put a diagram into a stock control, data CSV file or accounts spreadsheet.
