Just had a letter, from Sky, informing me that they are changing the contract terms, for my Broadband, and Telephone, services, and want to charge me £5 per month more:mad:

After a long conversation, on the telephone, as you can't contact them by email, and there online chat service is always busy, they have finally agreed to allow me to switch provider, without any penalties, so that I should end up with a better service, which should be cheaper, with unlimited downloads, unlike the 25 GB, I'm currently on.

After hearing some of the horror stories, from Sky customers, I'm still going to write, to them, requesting written confirmation, that I will not incur any extra Sky charges, as they have broken our contract.

It looks like I might end up back with talktalk, which seems to offer the cheapest, and best, offer, and suits my needs.

I'm not sure this is Sky's fault, as BT seems to have increased a lot of telephone charges, and the Broadband, including free Evening, + weekend, telephone options, seem to have vanished.

What is Sky's fault is that they don't have an email option, their online chat system is always busy, and you never get through, to the right department, using their automated telephone options.
When you finally get the right department, they insist that they are one of the cheapest, and best, providers, even when you have evidence that they aren't:-ohcrap

The law states (somewhere, not sure where though) that if a company you have a contract with updates their contract terms and conditions and you no longer agree to them, you are free to terminate the contract within a certain time at no expense to yourself (that's why they hardly ever update their terms as its a get out clause for unhappy customers)

On the letter it should state you can leave "fee free" if you don't accept the new terms, if it does, send them a letter telling them you want to cancel as you don't agree with the new terms and send them a copy of the letter they sent you (highlighting the get out clause) and ask them to confirm receipt of your letter within 14 days of the date shown

Thanks smoggy07, I have already confirmed this, but after reading some of the Sky cancellation horror stories, I have already written a letter, and got the Sky advisors ID, to confirm that I have chosen not to stay with Sky broadband.
Was going to start the switchover to talktalk, today, but their website is currently under maintenance, for signing up, so I will probably do it over the weekend.
yet another router/hub, to add to my collection, and a few hours offline, while the switchover takes place.
I even offered to recycle my Sky Hub, but they don't seem to want it, even though it's only a few months old !!!!!!!

Good Lord, if you think Sky CS is bad, wait till you have to er.. talk to TalkTalk... Just take any ISP review site and see what everyone says about TT.

If you want a cheap, no frills BB with decent-enough CS, go with PlusNet.

I was previously with Talktalk, without a problem, once my line problem was fixed, so no need to call the Indian call centre, for support.
I moved when they put the prices up, making Sky Fibre, 25GB limit, cheaper than Talktalk ordinary broadband, which gave me a poor speed.
Now we have Fibre, in our area, I can go for talktalk Fibre, which is on offer for only £5 per month, unlimited, on an 18 month contract, which I can switch, if they change the contract, and change anyway after 18 months.
Apparently Sky have put up a lot of their prices, which explains why the online chat facility was always busy, and people threatening to cancel Sky, unless they get some of the offers, currently only available to new customers !!!!!!
A lot of these organizations seem to dismiss their regular customers, in favour of new customers, and make them pay ridiculous prices, including Sky.
Thankfully I very rarely move my dish to 28.2E, I prefer the other satellites, currently enjoyng the 007 channel, on 19.2E.

19.2E, Sky Germany, been showing films all week, including the original Casino Royal, with David Niven, Peter Sellars, Woody Allen, Ursula Andress, and too many stars to mention !!!!

Apparently Watchdog tonight will be talking about Sky cancellation problems...

They are only putting up the prices to pay for Openreaches increases and also the Fecking football which contrary to Skys belief isn't watched by everyone. If Sky want to charge for the football they should increase the price of the Sports channels instead of burdening everyone else who doesn't have the remotest interest in football with the price increases.

If i wanted to watch 22 over paid nancy boys running around i'd go and watch Ballet instead. You don't see Sky chasing after the Rugby rights which last time i looked was a proper mans game unlike football.

The only advice i can give is to stay away from BT, Its overpriced and has awful customer services which sad to say is not based in the UK.

Damned Sky, again !!!!!!!
In the process of switching and I can't keep my telephone number, which means the change over is going to take longer than I planned, and I might be offline, for a few days.
The strange thing is that the Telephone number was provided by TalkTalk, when I moved in, and only transferred to Sky a few months ago, yet for some reason I can't simply switch back.
At least the new number isn't going to cost me anything, but it is annoying.

A television company should not be doing phone/broadband! You don't see Channel 4 doing it.... Same with Post Office, I mean, really?!

Sky UK, a television company???? I always thought they were trying to be a monopoly;)

Have changed both my land line and mobile telephone connections over several providers through the years ( central southern norway ) have always retained same phone numbers with each provider FOC.

Here its called portering/advancing the number.

Not sure what the uk term is for this service.

But well worth a check:D

Good luck

Sky cannot tell you that you can't port the number, because you can, if they still insist you can't, get Ofcom involved, the murdoch empire doesn't like it when the authorities get involved... :D

Apparently Watchdog tonight will be talking about Sky cancellation problems...

It was about not letting customers leave, at the end of the interview Mat asked him if he would like to leave now made me chuckle,

I've recently changed my BB from Sky to BT, 5 mins after signing up to BT I had a text message from sky telling me I owe them bla for leaving early followed by a letter even though BT was footing the bill, I kept my land line number for what use it is, we only use it only for answering cold calls

Not really an inconvenience, changing my telephone number, as only a few people have it, and I've recently started getting Indian callers asking about my energy supplier !!!!!!
What I will find annoying, is if I'm without the internet, for any length of time, I wouldn't even notice if the telephone wasn't working.
I've got the engineer booked for Monday November the 2nd, in the morning, the earliest they can do it, so hopefully it will just be an easy switch, and I wont be offline, for too long.

I have a letter, from Sky, stating that I will not incur early termination charges, as they changed the contract, but I have also got the ID, of a Sky representative, confirming this, over the telephone, and I've sent a recorded letter, to Sky, stating that I'm leaving, due to their change of contract.
Hopefully I wont experience the same problem, as other Sky customers, that I've read about.

110% Agreed......

Call Ofcom for advise as they can't stop you from porting the number out, especially if you ported the number in to Sky, it'll be a blag to try to keep your custom (some people get really upperty over their phone numbers, even more so when they've had it years)
