Does anyone know if it's at all possible to extend the range of a Dark Motor beyond the specified 80° limits? I just need a few more degrees.

Hm, I know what you mean. My Dark Motor could reach 72.1E (I think that's as near as damnit 80E on the motor itself at my location) but not sure if it can go further. If there are hardware limits under the dish stub then they can possibly be adjusted or removed altogether. This is possible on Technomate motors (and its clones) - not sure about the DM. Are you trying to get to 76.5E?

76.5 would be nice but even to be able to get spot on with 75E would be good. Here the motor will go to 74.5°E which is 79.9 on the motor

I have many years of experience with various types of motors but I'm not familiar with the term dark motor. Is that an actuator or a hh?

If i recall correctly there are no actual 'Hardware Screw Limits' on a Dark Motor it literally goes from one end to the other the idea being that the receiver you use sets the software limits

Not as easily accessible as the technomate branded motors, all the DM's i have had all limits where opened to the maximum travel allowed

They look like they are adjustable by removing the top cover, possibly something that could be done in situ with the dish still attached. My Moteck 2100A could only be adjusted after removal of the stub mast, the stops are still in it somewhere, they fell off when I removed the screws :D . Assuming they are the stops I'll report back once I've had chance to get over Mike's and 'tweaked' them.

all H to H motors should have a range of 90 degree,s either side of zero really and should be set to maximum at the factory but it doesnt seem to be the case... its then left to the installer/owner to either use the mechanical/software limits or both dependent on the reception site.

darkmotors are just badged... as an example if @Analoguesat were to go to a supplier on alibaba and say i want 10000 usals motors they would call it whatever he liked... im a stab fan myself but for the price the darkmotors are gvfm and are better made than some that are out there.. the TM 2300 as an example its rustproofing on the bracketery is shocking.

Didn't get far with that, nipped over to Mike's earlier to see if we could get the top off but I guess the salt air has worked its magic on the soft screws holding down the lid. All are solid and with the soft screws used they started to round off. Once the weather has improved we'll take it off, drill them and take a look inside.

Unless of course someone has one close to hand they can check to see if those screws will allow extra movement?
