Dashes at top left of the screen

My Satellite Setup
1.2 meter dish
technomate box

I can move the dish manually if I
want to change sat
But since the change over to digi
I find it difficult to find satellites
(must be the digi delay )

Just posted this a min ago but cant see it on forum
so Ill post it again

A couple of months ago I swapped by sky box for the HD box
pictures ok, but there are dashes at top left of the screen that should nt be there

I ve tried everything but cant get rid

Just looked at my Samsung and it has the same dashes at the moment on Sky News, never really noticed before, but they're not there all the time and in fact have now gone.

Those dashes are common... most TVs have overscan so you rarely see them. It's another matter on PCs though.
 
I've seen those dashes on various TVs fed by various boxes for years. They generally tend to be on live broadcasts so most times they're not there. And even when they are then, as Rolf says, unless your TV is set so that there's no overscan (or you're watching a letterbox picture on an old 4:3 screen) you wouldn't see them.

On an HD TV it'll be in the setup for the picture somewhere. On my Philips it's called Picture Format and I can cycle through various options (Auto fornat, Widescreen, 4:3, etc) and the one which shows the complete picture is called unscaled. It may be called 1:1 pixel mapping or something like that for your TV.

Basically if you choose anything else (Auto or 16:9 are usually favourite) it'll chop a little bit off from round the edges. I prefer to leave it as unscaled as it gives me more picture.
