Hi Guys,

Is there an easy way of telling a dead LNB? (Measure its resistance perhaps?)

I ask because I inherited a bag of sat bits and pieces from an ex installer and have been putting a system together.

I got up and running ok but having got the bug, I thought I'd get my first new bit of kit.

Not being able to get better than about 65-70% signal strength on Hotbird, I thought a decent branded LNB would be the place to start upgrading..

I splashed out on an Invacom 0.3dB LNB......... But I get no signal from it!!!!'O'-red

Just to confirm I wasn't being a clutz, I put my freebie no-name LNB back in, and yep, got my signal back. Do these things occasionally come DOA?

For info, the rest of the kit;

90cm Aluminium Prime Focus Dish.
Variety of no name LNB's
Az/El mount fixed onto Hotbird at the moment.
Pinnacle CI PCI Sat card and ProgDVB software with Softcam keys.

Thanks for looking,

PM:D

Yes, some LNBs can arrive DOA, haven't had many myself, but it does happen. There can be differences in the "F" connector contact, some LNBs require a longer core length than others, always worth checking.
