Currently have a T-rex cam which i havent used for a while plugged it in and its failing to initialise, i just wondered if its scrap now or can it be repaired and if so who by?

try it in another receiver, if possible, if the bootloader is damaged it is quite chep to repair, if you know someone with a Cas 3, and some soldering skills, then they can do it for you, otherwise van hoof will repair it quite cheaply, but it does take a couple of weeks due to the post.
Unfortunately he is moving address at the moment and so is not ready to accept delivery of Cams for a couple of weeks.

i have a cas3 maybe able to get a soldiering iron how difficult is it to open the cam

it's easy to open the cam, they're only held together by 4 joints, 2 each side, but the soldering is delicate, but has been carried out by a number of people.
Check Duolabs for full details, you also need the Cas 3 latest software.

Download the CAS3 manual off Duolabs website, there is a good section on repairing cams with photos, some of the CAS3 kits came with a new cam housing (if you naff the old one up) depending on when you purchased yours. I dont now if it will fit the T-REX because of the second sim, mabe the bottom would.
 
In order to repair the Cam you need a CAS 3, with cas7.4 software. The version 7.4 is actually the first version that actually would repair the cam due to a timing issue with the chip.

If you are careful, you can just open one side of the cam. I did this then I cut a hole over the connections in the Cam. Then I made a plug simular to a JTAG so, so I did not have to soldier wires to the Cam itself. With the hole in the bottom (I used a drammel tool to cut the hole) make sure to measure before you cut and make the hole only the length and width of the pad with the connections. I then put the cam back into the case, and bent the little ears back into their proper place and used a very small amount of super glue
on each ear to hold the cam together.Make sure the ears are bent back as close as possible or the cam will not fit into a pcmcia slot ( I learned from
experience).
