Thirty-five years as a BBC Radio 2 presenter, and only retiring last year, Desmond Carrington has died aged 90.

I don't listen to Radio 2, so can't comment on his output; 40's and 50's singalong stuff I think, but I do remember he played a doctor in the hospital series Emergency Ward Ten years ago.

When we drive down to France we frequently start on a Friday and so we would invariably listen to his programme and I always admired the breadth of his taste. I'm unable to remember exactly what it was now but I remember him introducing something fairly modern which I really wouldn't have thought he'd heard of let alone play it.

RIP Desmond.
 
We sometimes heard him on Friday evening in the car. Quite recently heard some of his last show and had to admire his enthusiasm. RIP
 
The name rings a bell but I never was a radio 2 listener, but RIP Desmond

Just heard an interesting story on Radio Caroline about him. He used to pre record his programme but one was due to go out the day Princess Diana died and he realised that it would be inappropriate and so was allowed to broadcast live from home and then continued to do so.
