I was having a few glasses of red with an old work colleague last night and we ended up talking telly.

Go back to the early 90s, I was busy travelling round Europe and Turkey and staying in hotels that had a decent amount of satelllite TV. Most of our work was done at night so I was always around late afternoon waiting for dinner to start and I'd flick round the TV channels.

I'm convinced I remember watching a programme that was hosted by someone who may have been in screen but was like a radio DJ at a desk and would take messages and emails from people, mostly teenagers home from school and spread right across Europe, is this ringing any bells? Given it was on a hotel MATV system it must of been mainstream and presumably on one of the big birds like 19 or Hotbird?

I'm sure I didn't dream all this but just need someone to confirm that :D

Knowing the language may narrow it down

English, I would'nt have stuck around if I'd not understood it. BTW, it was long before Ray Cokes and MTV.

Could it have been Music Box? Apparently some of its programming (that Youtube clips show to be in the style you mention), lasted on Super Channel (which replaced it) into the early 90s.

I do vaguely remember a show on Sky One or maybe Sky Channel in the early 90s that was something like "Your song" or "Our song" where people would send in requests and talk about what the song meant to them. Google search has gone massively downhill and I can't find anything about it, but it certainly existed.

I don't know. Doctor Dish was partly dual language, and Tutti-Frutti could be watched by anyone.

Additionally the Scandinavians often put out programmes that were definitely Se/Fi/No/Dk but were perfectly resepctable with their English.

Thanks for the replies, I'm still not sure these are what I remember but I did wonder if it might of been on SuperChannel. Someone suggested trying to find hobby and listing magazines from back then to see if that might turn up anything so I'll go looking later on. Thanks for the link to the MusicBox video Adam and great to hear the voice of Bill Mitchell again.
