Difficult to tune frquency on Eutelsat W2A

My Satellite Setup
STRONG SRT-4910+,SunRay4HDse,TBS5922, 2.4M P.F Apstar7(76.5 DEGE), 120cm dish PAS 10 Ku( 68.5 DEGE),3.0M Mesh Motorised dish on arc (AM44 (11DEGW) to AM33(96.5 DEGE),150 cm dish W3C(16 DeG E)+ side LNB Ew2A(10 DEGE),90cm W4/W7 (36 DEGE)

I picked W2A Africa beam with good signal strength( more than 80 % Q) on a 60 cm dish . Frequency is 11663 H SR 3830. The problem is that my Startrack 707plus is locked to the carrier when aligning dish but loses lock to it as soon as I changed to a second TP 11554 H SR 30000. These are the two TPs I can get.The second TP remained always locked. My friend with same receiver could not lock this particular TP. However On Startrack SR 140 it tuned to MGM and AfroMusic. On my DVB SS2 I have same problem of not locking to the first but locked to the second. Satcatcher meter also did not locked though with a high signal strength. Spectrum analyzer showed a high peak. I just want to have an idea of what may be the cause. I suspect that this 11663 MHz is too close to the LOW/HIGH Ku cut off frequency.Is the change from Low to High band set at 11700MHz? I'm not sure. Did someone here receive a satellite with a similar or near frequency? PLease help

and the frequency is not to close
if 11.663 is the center frequency then we are looking at 15 to 18 mhz above and below the center frequency.we are looking at 11.681 on the high end and it is still below the 11.700.
the scew of the lnb is important as well.
i don't know were you are or what satellite you are receiving.

He's in Terre Rouge, Mauritius and is receiving Eutelsat W2A (10E) and is presumably trying to receive Afro Music Channel or The MGM Channel Portugal from the Africa Beam.
 
RalphMagno , The issue is not the skew. The dish is well pointed and only this frequency is not locking. Levels for both transponders are nearly same. We are in Beam center even with an offset it should go. Only some receivers can do it.

i found you on the map.
the charts say 60 cm should be ok for this satellite but if you could try a bigger dish like a 80 cm it should work.
in one case on 24.5 west the charts say 60 cm in my area and it was wrong.
i did a 80 cm and it did't work.
then i went to a 1.2 dish and it worked like a champ.
i would say try a 80 cm and see what happenes.

I got both 60 cm and 80 cm. I even have a 120 cm.May be you're not getting my points. I aligned dish on the same signal 11663H but it failed to tune in the receiver. That is no channel is saved in the box. For the other tp it is ok.
 
Ok: An off-the-wall suggestion, but one that is easy and quick to confirm or eliminate - Do you have any other electronic equipment in the vicinity that are capable of emitting L Band signals that could be interfering with certain frequencies on the IF between your LNB and Receiver?

Here we have well-known problems in some cases with things like Digital Cordless Telephones and Wireless Internet Hubs emitting signals around 1.8 to 1.9 GHz (not exclusively there, but commonly) and thus affecting Ku Band signals originating at around 11630 and/or 12480 MHz by virtue of exploiting weakness in the screening of the Satellite cable.

Just a thought ................ 11663 isn't a million miles away from those affected frequencies.
 
Thank you TiVu. Good sugestion. I have only a wireless router at home. Cellphone Tower is near. Some 15 Km away my friend is having same problem with same decoder. The other decoder Startrack SR 140 with blind search is catching it on both H and V. Remember I used same decoder( NC 707) to align dish but the only problem is TUNING: No channels came out. What makes thing worse for me is that my SS2 DVB card also cannot lock to 11663 but is ok on 11554H( using Prog DVB and DVB Dream). Mysterious!!!!!
 
Well I did imply it was a "wild card" suggestion!

It's got me stumped, I'm afraid.

According to lyngsat and flysat there isn't such tp (11554H) on Eutelsat W2A at 10.0°E.
Do you mean that you move at Eurobird 16 at 15.8°E ??? there is such tp on this sat.
In second case ,try to erase all tps that you don't use from the data base of tps into your receiver for this particular sat.( Eutelsat W2A) maybe it works.
 
Thank you Adonis1. This tp 11554 still exist on this satellite. it was discovered thru blind scan. This morning I just scanned my decoder and it tuned to MGM and AfroMusic. I do not know what happened but it works now on same NC 707. I will tell my friend to rescan his decoder to see if problem was in the signal itself. Haven't tried my SS2 yet.
 
Its quite posssible that 11554H is either powered up but not modulated with signals or is only transmitting data services (eg internet connections).

Many receivers will scan a data tp but wont store the data stuff.

Unless you know for certain that 11554H is actually transmitting tv id be inclined just to ignore it.
 
Yes 11554 H has 2 DATA channels. but occasionally we had some feed like yesterday we had MOTO GP. My issue was with 11663H where there are two TV channels.
 
I know - but you have now answered the question as to why the DB doesnt see anything on 11554H mentioned earlier - data channels dont show up on DB's unless you use DBedit and change the channel type from data to tv.
 
Thank you Analoguesat you are right. On Startrack SR140 no data channels is seen but on Startrack 707 it is seen as Radio channels. On SS2 it is seen as DATA. Thank you again.

Yes it is now running ok. BTW where is MEA? Where are you? This is on the African beam concentrating on our paradise island, Mauritius, but up to now I do not know the reason why.
 
According to the ip address he is on the west coast of Portugal.

tugaabroad - please fill in your location properly - MEA is meaningless. It might seem like a small point but its important if you ask technical questions.


Here in Europe we cant get many of the African services as they are transmitting on beams not directed at Europe.
 
hi there im new in that feild.i try 2 pickup mgm i couldnt.i dont know y.im in sa cape town.i get signal on 11554 h 30000 power and quelity.but 11663 h 3830 i cannot.but i get some signal stringth from 38 til 61 and goes up and down quick and no quelity.but if if put 11663 h 357.gvs high signal quelity around 90%.but no streigth at all.i need help for that guys.so whats the problem there.thank u.
 
kh975 You should get it with good strength in SA. It's very tricky this frequency. sometimes no quality even with high strength. 11663 is the only frequency with TV.How can you get Quality without Strength? What is the second SR you are using?What decoder are you using?
