Difficulty Setting Up Motorised Dish

Excellent tutorial Unfortunately because of trees i cannot locate true south Is there an alternative using acompass to near to thedish does not work
 
Then forget due South.

In such cases, USALS comes into its own as it enables you to fix any point on the arc.

So, if you can see East of South, instead of selecting Thor or AB3, use Hotbird (eg) instead.
 
Excellent tutorial have followed it tro the letter and am getting top signal on my meter but nothing on the tv i am using an 80 cm motorised dish a single universal lnb and a humax foxat hd reciever and am at my wits end what to do next any help will be ap[preciated for this stupid newbie
 
Hmm ............ what do you mean by top signal on your meter? If it's a simple needle meter they screech like mad almost regardless.

And using the Foxsat to aid setting up is ill-advised as the non-Freesat mode takes a bit of mastering off 28E.

But if the signal indication on the meter is for real, it is more than likely you got the wrong Satellite.
 
Thanks tivu have taken your advice and moved to a super dark box 2008 but not sure where to start do i establish and fine tune 1 satellite i.e.thor before establishing other satellites also not sure how to set ref point
 
Its in the tutorial.

You start by aligning the dish/motor at the top of the arc, i.e due south. There's not much in it if you use 0.8 WThor or 5W. Use Usuals to send the motor there first.

Once you've got Thor OK, then try the other satellites around the arc, that will be when you find out if you need to fine tune.
 
Earlier, you said you had trees in the way for Thor (Post #32) ................ If that is really the case, all is not lost as with USALS you can fix any point on the arc. This does rely even more so on you being totally confident your mount is plumb, though.
 
Hi. progress is slow as i Have now Found Astra 2 @ 28.2e But not even a glimmer of a signal from any other satellite not even when i try to fine tune sugestions please i am using an 80 cm dish with a philex motor and a GT single universal lnbf

No amount of questions will reveal the whole truth!
 
m8 you will struggle with a 80cm dish in fife for thor.If you have found 28east use this as your reference sat and be sure your mount is 100% plumb as the experts have told you and hopefully all should fall into place. Also be sure sure the mount is plumb 360 degrees around the mount but it sounds like this is your problem. Pic's would be good

Ok as far as they go. But can you please take and Post one showing the other side of the motor bracket (the side with the directly graduated Latitude scale).

There is an equivalence, of course, between motor latitude/motor elevation scales, but it's hard enough to see the datum anyway, without also having to refer back to Tables to find the corresponding figure for the other scale).
 
Having just checked and found the Fife is about 56°N, then checked on my motor elevation scale and cross checked it with the latitude scale it doesn't seem too far out in the first photo. However, looking at the second photo of the dish (which seems to be a Triax) has the dish mount been assembled upside down? Surely the adjustment should be at the bottom, not the top??
 
You're right, Pete.

The dish backplate itself is the right way up, but the bracket with the adjustment slot is downside oop.

(ie the bracket interposed between motor stub and dish backplate)

Good spot.
 
It might explain why there's a difficulty getting Thor as given the latitude the dish face must be darn close to vertical. Having it that way up may be stopping the dish pointing any lower. It can't be far off but probably just enough to miss.
 
Well I wouldn't disagree that your assembly accords with the sketch, but it does nevertheless not look right!

Maybe someone with that exact dish could comment?

I have a TD110, which has a different bracket design, but the diagram that came with mine omitted to describe how to fit a key item for making the bracket more rigid.

So I don't entirely trust the destructions.
 
Pretty sure that it is not a Triax dish, Fitted loads, almost every size they do.

Though whoever made it has made some sort of imitation of the AZ/EL holder. I would suggest putting it the other way up too, as it looks like its pointing too far up, dish face should be about vertical I think for that far north.

no it is not triax Complete unit apart from the motor was bought from satgear will bow to far suprier knowledge and get the ladders out tomorow
