Difficulty Setting Up Motorised Dish

Sorry to say your theory dose not seem to hold up. as tou can see from the photo the adjustment is as far as it will go and the dish is barely passed plumb. Have also posted a picture of latitude scale set at 56n Longitude is Dish Elevation.webp3.3w

Fair enough - you were right.

Your Latitude is fine, though.
 
Jaycee, when you say, "barely past plumb", do you mean just up from vertical? Because that's about where it should be. From the latest photo the dish elevation looks further up than slightly more than vertical. You will be hampered by the lack of markings on the dish elevation adjustment. It would have given you a starting point at least, though of course scales on dishes can be inaccurate. Afraid I'm a bit stumped for further advice.

Whats wrong with the setup with the bracket that way?, Looks OK to me. Obviously we can't see the whole dish in that photo though. Looks like its tilting back quite a bit, up in Fife, your due south sat is going to be lower anyway, i.e approx 26 degrees elevation (here it is 31), so the dish should be very close to vertical I think.

Have you tried getting a signal like that.?

One way to find out is to adjust the motor elevation instead, you would then know if the dish needs to point up more or down more.


If neither way up works, another hole drilled in the bracket to move the pivot point should sort it?

There are some unbranded dishes on ebay like that, its just a matter of finding the correct pair of holes to use.
 
The dish elevation photo was taken while the set up was at the work bench and the angle looks decieving but checked with an inclonometer it was only 1 degree and could go no further i am led to believe it should be about 5 degrees so i will consider drilling another sot of holes

I've just noticed (in your 'bench' photo) some faint impressed numbers above the dish/motor mount. They appear to state, 20, 40, 60. I'd hazard a guess at those being your elevation markers. So, I'd turn the mount back the way you had it at first and look for some datum line on the mount you could line up with those numbers. If you find a marker line try setting the dish at quarter the way from 20 to 40. If there isn't a mark on there, I really don't know what you could use on the mount as a reference point for the elevation markers. Anyone else with a bright idea? (Apart from a rough guesstimate of course!)
 
I agree with Robbo, the bracket looks right the way it is in the last photo. It's worth ago I think before drilling any holes. You'd be supprised at the angle of an ofset dish sometimes. With my TD110 on 62e it literally is pointing at the floor by all appearences. Yours will need to look even lower.
 
Thing is, I think the design of the actual bracket is poor. I've just checked the dishes I have here and they all have a central pivot point to facilitate adjustment. I.E. when you move the dish to peak the elevation the top and bottom adjustment moves backwards and forwards. Jaycee's dish doesn't, it moves relative to a fixed point. He may be better off trying to extend the existing fixed anchor point hole on the bracket to make a bottom (or top depending on which way it's mounted) sliding adjustment. Maybe even drill and mount a threaded rod to provide a central pivot.
 
Hi guys once again thanks for your input. Have decided to go back to basics and have set up the dish as per inst. and yes sonnetpete these are elevation markings and the initial setup be 22.5 have put the dish back on the wall mount Motor set at 0 and roughly pointing south, using usals sent the dish to astra 2 and with the signal bar on TV showing 65% strength and quality 0% proceded to adjust east then west then elevation showing no change on strength or quality then repeated the same process on 13 east with sme results. Have now embarked on a process of elliminationChecking out dark box by connecting it to my fixed sky dish with perfect results and am now waiting on a new LNB
 
Jaycee, while you're up there changing the LNB it might be just as well to check on the cable to the F connectors and make sure they are ok. Hope the new LNB cures things.
 
Hi Gents back again but with good news this time The lnb was ok But pete was right the dish mount is of poor design. The dish elevation bracket, markings and sugested setting bear no resmblance to actual dish elevation once i realised this, the clues are in the thread, i Pushed the dish as far forward as it could go then slowly worked backword until i got a good strong signal then the rest fell into place many many thanks gents without your help i would have never got there
 
Jaycee, I'm pleased you got it sorted in the end. Even the more expensive 'name' dishes have inaccuracies in their elevation scales. I think you've done what most of on here have, and learnt through experience. But isn't it satisfying when you get it right!!
 
Well all's well that ends well ............... so pleased you managed to sort it out.
