My digibox is connected to a phone line that needs to dial a few numbers before every outgoing call. Is there a way to edit/change/add to the number Sky would dial from the Digibox? Thanks

Yes, go into the installers menu, services, system setup, 01select and go into telephone settings, dialling prefix..

Is it known what phone number this is, or at least the dialing code (or is it 0800)? Also, on they ask for your Digibox phone number. Does this mean they dial INTO the digibox, instead of the usual FROM the digibox to Sky?
And are there yet Digiboxes that have a broadband connection instead of this old-school phone connection?

The phone number is known, but I don't have it. They never dial into the box, it is always done from the box to Sky. I very much doubt if they will utilise a broadband connection, as they have no way of checking where the box is.

What is the callback actually used for except PPV movies? Is it used for subscription channels too (channels you pay a 3rd party for but which are carried by the Sky signal)?

It is used for PPV and location verification for multiple discounted subscriptions.

What is meant by "multiple discounted subscriptions". Any examples?

Yes, if you have a digibox with a subscription, Sky will offer a second subscription for £10, but on the basis that both boxes are connected to the same phone line, this pretty much guarantees that both boxes are at the same address.

My SKY box calls 08007317929. The number called is configured by SKY on a per viewing card basis. You cannot change it. The only thing you can do is prefix it with up to five digits.

If you are desparate to change the number then you can get cheap auto dialers that will dial a fixed number as soon as the SKY box modem goes off-hook. This means the same number will be dialled regardless of which service the SKY box thinks it is trying to connect to.

If you need a prefix of more than five digits, I beleive there are also auto-diallers that will simulate dial-tone, collect the dialled dogits and then dial them out with a pre-configured prefix.

Do you know where to get these cheap auto dialers and these other auto-dialers?

This is an example of what I am talking about.

Beware though, I have never tried this. The digibox probably waits for dial tone. Unless the dialler returns a dummy dial tone it may not work!

According to the manual it can be configured to allow dialled digits through after it has dialed.

Another example is here .
