Digibox scart RGB out

I need some advice.
I use an old slybox which has an rgb output on the scart connector. My LCD telly has componant in on phono plugs or a computer style rgb in. -It also has scart inputs but unfortunately it only seems to pickup the composite signal on the scart.

I know you can buy a "proper" scart to componant convertor (which is expensive) & there are also cheap scart to componant cables and scart to rgb cables (passive I assume). Do they work ?

Has anyone any experiance in getting a decent RGB signal off a digibox and onto the screen ? Whats the cheapest way to do it ?

I had the same problem with a Philips flat panel TV, neither scart socket would allow RGB, this I found amazing, particularly given the 7 million Sky subscribers and 4 million Freeview box owners in the country, who would all want to connect by RGB scart.

Many thanks Rolf. I thought it was just me being silly but I wonder just how many digibox users actually take advantage of the rgb output ? Very few, I would guess.

Well I certainly do! The difference on my 32" Philips TV (old fshioned CRT but with PixelPlus) is quite noticable. Strangely enough it's even more noticeable on my old 28" Sony which doesn't have any picture improvement technology.

So, it seems the poorer your TV the better the reason to use RGB signals.
 
Sky installers are supposed to check to see if the RGB setting improves the picture, or at least they used to have to. :)
 
The RGB output from the TV SCART on a Digibox improved the picture on my LCD TV - but I had to invest in a RGB to component converter as the TV uses component video input rather than SCARTs. I used the Keene APTUS1 converter and at first thought it was faulty. However, I discovered that the reason it seemed not to work was that, despite having the Digibox set to RGB output, the RGB output from the Digibox TV SCART was being turned off by pressing the TV button on the SKY remote. I have never seen this described before and wonder if its a feature of all Digiboxes. It happens on my Thomson 4212 and also on an old Panasonic DSB30 - both with up to date software. The RGB output is turned on again by pressing the SKY button or the top pale blue keys. If anyone has noticed this have they tried to get SKY to update the software so that it does not happen?
I now see that PaulR described this in 2004, and Methos_De in 2000 - there is nothing new under the sun!

That's an impressive use of the search function. I read the begiining of your post and I was trying to remember when I had made the posting.
