My Satellite Setup

Home, Sky dish with Goodmans HD Box
My Location
NE England

I decided to resurrect my old Sky dish so have bought a Goodmans Freesat HD box for £90 from argos. I set the system up and it tells me that I'm getting 85% signal of a good quality. I did the basic install and ended up with some 156 channels. Trouble is every time I turn it on most stations give me "No Signal" I've re-done first time install a couple of times with the same result. Why is it doing this to me:mad:

It really depends upon how old your 'old' sky dish is. When was it last used? it may be from the analogue days and be pointing at the wrong satellite i.e. 19.2 East and not 28.2 East and indeed be missing the higher frequency channels as it is an old lnb.

To be honest without some more detail it would be difficult to diagnose the problem

I get all the channels first time and excellent picture. The next time I turn on half the channels are missing. BBC 1 is usally ok the rest are very iffy. The dish is not that old and the lnb is even younger.

Did you cable it yourself? are you sure you have not got a fine thread of braid shorting out the cable intermittently?

Are you switching the stb completely off and back on or bringing out of standby?

Just tried it again and all is perfect!! The trouble is it has been before and then the next time it's cr*p???

I did cable it and after the first round of bother redid the joint in the cable, but I will check for stray wires.

Cheers

redid the joint in the cable,

Joint.....why do you have a joint?, what is the overall cable length?
can you post a picture of the 'joint'
Whilst we are at it what cable have you used?

I had this problem and when i checked the ends on the fitting to the lnb the inner core wire was too long and kinking and obviously not making correct connection, snipped a bit off ensured correct connection and now 100%

regards Dave

Thanks Dave when I went up the ladder I found the connector to the lnb was not the best. Have tightened that up and all is looking good, even though I am showing a slight lessening of the signal:confused:
When the wife gets home I'll do some dish re-pointing:)
Best of luck against the Mancs, lets hope you benefit from the same dodgy ref decisions you got against the Boro ;)

I have a pukka inline joint made inside the kitchen so we have a white cable to match the decor, all digital screened stuff though.
Thanks for your time and assistance.
