My Satellite Setup
Gibertini 1.5 dish, Gibertini 1.2 to motorize, Funke 1 mtr motorized.
VU+ Duo,3 dreamboxes,2 Foxsat hdrs,, 3 digiboxes and relook 400s.. Satcatcher mk4 Nit, Satlink 6908 and an old Lacuna.

Now tried the meter 1st impressions very good. I checked a Usals set up i had done with the old Lacuna and most sats that i am interested in came in at 75-90 signal level and strangly a lot of readings of 99% on quality. Does this sound correct?
I am charging it now full charge for the second time i realise this is normal because the battery needs to be conditioned, but the 1st charge only lasted for about 1 hour and the meter was shutting down with a sound like a strangled turkey.
The only thing ineed to get to grips with is using the Spectrum to fine tune the lnb. Could some kind person please give me some advice.

Please let us know how you get on with this meter, good or bad. Not sure about the 99% quality though.

Nice result.

You can use the spectrum to maximise the cross polar rejection / skew by rotating the LNb until the dip between adjacent transponders is as large as possible. Once achieved, you can use the MER/CNR/BER measurements to tweak.

Thanks mate I will give it a try later I should be able to see the effect on screen, is it top to bottom of the dip or side to side? I am in the UK at the moment North Lincs not far from the satcacher factory and the test was done on a 1 mtr Funke aluminium. It would have been handy to have the tv version for when i am in Spain you go to do a realignment and the dish is fine it's quite often the box that has fried in the heat, it would have been handy to show the customer that the dish is OK, at the moment i carry a spare box.
It looks as if the CN and BER readings are for reference only. Am i right i assuming that the CN should be about 6db min and 10db + and the BER 4 min and 6 optimum?


I will get to grips with it eventualy.

Anyone actualy got the software to work on a PC tried it off the cd and the beta from the website for vista . New pc with Windows 7 doesnt work but quite understandable bearing in mind the cost of producing drivers, however when i tried it on an older pc running Vista 32 bit. Still doesn't work! ( Tried the beta frm the website dated August 2009)
I can now understand from reading various posts why they appear to encourage manual entries direct to the the meter.

Perhaps we need a little more software support. What is it like on the Satlook Micro?

Any ideas please let me know.

If you were driving the motor with the meter this uses quite a bit of battery. I upgraded my Satcatcher to the 4000mAh battery and now battery life is much better than with the original. But anyway if the meter is new and you are playing with it a lot it will need charging pretty frequently.

99% must be a strong satellite. To fine tune even more you could use signal to noise, but at that quality level does it really matter?

By the way the software worked fine for me (Vista). Is that meter USB or RS-232. If it is RS-232 it could be a problem with the USB - RS-232 converter.

Thanks mate sorry for the late reply, the battery is OK now after the 3rd charge.
The meter has usb to usb connection biut i tried it on 3 vista pcs no joy so downgraded my old laptop to XP and all working fine.

The sats on 99% are Astra 28,Asta 19 and 13 east. Thor 84%, Hispasat 88% so very happy, Ber on 28 East is E05 and Cn 13.3.

Can't wait to get back to Spain and test.

PS Satcatcher tell me that a new list will be out for the 111s within a few days.
