Travelling to work very early this morning, I came across a young girl (late teens) thumbing a lift.
She was on a quiet, unlit country road (it was still dark), and she was dressed in dark clothing.
It would appear she had been drinking heavily.

My dilemma was, do I drive past her and hope she gets home ok, and then spend the rest of the day worrying about her, or even worse,open the local paper tonight to find she's been hit by a car.

Or;
Do I let my paternal instinct take over, (I have a daughter around that age) pick her up, and make sure she gets home safely, running the risk of
(a) The girl making unpleasant accusations against me.
(b) Her throwing up in my car.

What would you do?
 
I bet you let your paternal instincts take over.
This is what I would have done anyway. There are so many wolves around just looking for a girl in her situation.
 
It might have been worth giving consideration to making an advisory phone call to the Police.

That would not only relieve you of the concern over picking someone up with all the attendant risk that that could (but probably wouldn't) have but would also assuage any guilt you would later feel if you learnt something untoward occurred - ie You had passed your guilty knowledge on to an authority that ought at least to have some social concern for her plight yet wouldn't be placed in a potentially difficult situation if they were to make contact with the girl.
 
Put her in the boot, then she can't throw up on the leather.

Anyway, who works on a Saturday ?
 
Give her a lift, but make sure the window is open.

what i did do was phone the police, and the policeman said i did the right thing.
