DiSEqC and USALS on same feed?

Robbo, the switch will pass the motor command. If you read "Yorks's" post I think he was using a Technomate 1500 with a 2 port 1.0 switch connecting 2 motorised dishes, one at the front of the house and one at the back. As long as the switch was already on the correct port the command would get through to the motor but if the switch had to change port the command would be lost, but a quick zap up and down and the dish would move fine. So, either the Technomate is sending the motor command first or it is not allowing the switch sufficient time to close before sending the instruction to the motor.
 
OK, I'm back again with my findings:

I got a 2.0 DiSEqC switch with two LNB inputs. Set it up as follows:

TM6900 -> SG2100 -> Switch => LNB A (Motor Dish) / LNB B (Fixed Dish).

Did the Technomate Channel Editor thing, by setting USALS to OFF on 28.2E, set the DiSEqC 1.0 to Port 2 and left the 1.1 off.
While in the editor I set the other sats (19E, 13E, 9E, 1W, 5W) to DiSEqC 1.0 port 1 and left the 1.1 off.

So far so good, but when I change to 28.2E the quality indication bar is "stuck" at around 2% when it should read around 78-80%. It also sounds like the motor moves even though I have set it to off when chosing 28.2E. If I then go into the satellite setup menu the quality rises to between 78-80% within a second or so?

When tuning back to one of the other satellites (i.e. 9E) the picture comes on for a few seconds and then goes away. The quality shows around 88-90% and i have to change channel or swith the receiver off before it maks any difference.

I know I said that I was going to try the other way around with the setup, but is there any point in me getting out in the freezing weather and chaging the two cables around so I get the Switch in before the USALS instead of after?

I suppose It depends if your curiosity is greater than you desire to stay warm ..

fwiw ..I would have opted for switch first ..motor and fixed dish second ...
..and would probably have opted for a diseqc 4 way switch ...and used protocol 1.1..
It just makes more logical sense ..at least in my grey matter..
But as mentioned previously and by other members ...the technomate is less likely to be so keen to function with this config ..than say ...a linux based box..
Personally I wouldn't be happy 'till I had tried it and knew for sure ..

Where is the switch? Is it up on the roof? Or are there 2 downleads and the switch indoors?

You need to connect the dishes directly to the receiver (without the switch) one at a time and make sure they both work properly. If they do there is something wrong with the switch configuration.

What a bad design that you can't edit the motor control on individual satellites from the receiver menu and need to plug it into a PC instead.

I placed the (outdoor) switch on the pole where the USALS dish is located so the LNB is connected no further than 2 feet from the switch . The other fixed dish is less than 6 feet away. Luckely both are at ground level so very easy access. Both LNB's are working perfectly and both dishes are alligned spot on. The Fixed dish is pointing at 28.2E with my SKY+HD box attached so no problems there. The USALS dish is doing it's job bang on as well.

I tried to move the Switch before the motor and this was not a success. The motor moved much much slower than before and often did I encounter problems with signals in. Changed back and there is a world of difference.

I also now notised that after I "leave" 28.2E (which is the DiSEqC 2 output) and going back to one of my other USALS channels, the channel I move to comes up blank. I then have to switch off the receiver, or move the dish to another position for it to work properly again! I guess after having tried all possibilities, there is not much more I can do and am somewhat happy with the setup, though not optimal. It does give me a very good reason for getting a new sat box ;-)

Next problem how am I going to expalin this to the missus?

If I had to guess without testing I would say the switch is faulty. Two reasons why: because the motor is moving slower if it is inline after the switch and also because the switch is not switching back to port 1 without the receiver being powered down.
