Diseqc Decoder project ..

Starting to take shape ..
I think this little utility may well be very useful..
The 1602 lcd display arrived from China ..along with my PIC ...
So set about the build with the schematic and Hex flash provided by Mike Berg ... N0QBH
Project found on t'internet....
Build completed on stripboard I then flashed the PIC ..
and after correcting a few build mistakes and adjusting the contrast pot ..I got a result...unit hooked up to a Skybox receiver..
(This is my second PIC tho' ...either the first one was faulty or my programmer didn't like it)
Here are a couple of photos..
I have a friend whos good with code ...and am hopeful I can persuade him to write some hex that will spit out English instead of Diseqc Hex ..
..but ..hey ...it's a start.

Total build cost approx £6
..and self powered in series with the receiver and the motor/lnb

It didn't require much by way of energy buddy ...but I wont deny it aint as easy as it used to be ...what with 70% functional hands and rapidly deteriorating eyesight.

Ok ..
couldn't find a suitable ABS box for the project ..so for now I've improvised..
need one that is roughly 5 inches square ..and 3/4 to 1 inch deep..
Finally found a use for old VHS Tapes ..
errr ..the box that is ..

Retro fitted the serial out and put a socket on the side ..and brought the push button to the outside world.
I can easily open it up to use it ..but rto be honest 'tis ledgible through the opaque box anyway ..

Finally found a suitable project box on ebay ...
The ABS box and lid is really for potting ..but is the size I was looking for 10 x 10 x 3 cm
So ..I've set about transferring the diseqc decoder/meter ...
Not complete as yet ...but you get the idea..
