hi does a 4 way diseqc switch insert any losses in signal thanks in advance
 
Yes there will be a little loss. However on strong satellites you wont see any difference.

Some manufacturers claim losses as high as 4dB. The loss itself is not going to impact your SNR at the receiver end unless you have a long run of lossy cable between the LNB and STB because there is ample gain marigin in modern LNB's that make up for the normal losses encountered.

But: If the inline unit (switch, H-H rotor or positioner) is poorly engineered so that it introduces severe impedance mismatches to the system it may impact your SNR at the STB end because the tuner "sees" a weird line impedance far from 75ohms. I have experienced this first-hand with my Superjack V-BOX II that originally came with a badly designed (low-cost) 22kHz diseqc extraction circuit. After a simple modification I regained the lost 2-3% SNR (as measured on a DM7020S, Philips tuner)
 
Two to four db is about average for two and four way DiseqC switches, bear in mind that a 15m cable run could attenuate the signal as much as that. :)

as on 7w i only need a bout 3 or 4 percent to give me lock on many more channels does the v box also intoduce loss then as i have installed one of these and a diseqc switch

Edit:

Not all V-Boxes are the same. They all seem to use the same chip for the logic but otherwise they differ somewhat between brands.

Mine is branded Superjack, just like the actuators.
