hi all, so I'm new to these diseqc switches, i have a tm 5302 and a stab hh90 motor. i wanted to use the sky dish too but when i connect the switch, the motor doesn't move, it has a a DiSEqC 2 sticker on but the technomate has only DiSEqC 1 and 1.1 .. is that my issue ?
cheers rob

What diseqc port do you have the sky dish connected to?

And what port is the motor connected to?

As you need to tell the box what port to use.

So in the lnb menu add diseqc 1 to the the port 1/2/3/4 depending on your dish setup.

i probably should have spent more than £2.50 on a 4 way DiSEqC switch :p
by the way, the sky dish was fine on port 2, so the swich does work, kind of ..

seems to work on port 3..hmm
i have the TM 5302 in the bedroom and the blade 7000s in the living room, that way i don't disturb the missus at night if I'm up late, i had a splitter inline, but i took it out and it looks like the DiSEqC switch might work after all....strange as the splitter only sends power in 1 direction.. to the motor, maybe theres too much resistance with the splitter AND the switch..

Diseqc 2 doesn't really exist.

Diseqc 1.0 = 4 ports
Diseqc 1.1 = 8/16 ports
Diseqc 1.2 = motor commands

Diseqc 1.3=usals.

Diseqc 2.0 is supposed to support 2 way communication.

But your case forgot about diseqc 2.0

Is the switch a technomate Diseqc switch?

thanks for that info Chris, i never knew any of that :)
its a cheap switch, it says DiSEqC 2 on it, i have it working on motor port 4 ( DiSEqC 1.0 setting) and sky dish on port 2 ., its a bit fussy, but seems to be working.
cheers rob
ps I'm just checking it out as i need another motorised dish on the other side of the house too, as i don't get many sats in the west, due to obstruction.

On the odd occasion they don't switch automatically,

then go in to the lnb menu and just toggle the diseqc 1.0 option, e.g. Port 2 to port 3 and then back to the correct port.

And you must use diseqc in the following order

1.0

1.1

1.2

That way you shouldn't have any problems.

But with diseqc things are not set in stone.

I m using a 4x1 disecq switch.

For catching 103e russian beam, If I remove disecq, I get signals, but with disecq, I dont get signals.
Disecq is working fine for other satellites... may be they have a powerful beam at my place. I dont know what the issue is...

I ve read there's an insertion loss of 3 dbw with these switches.

Yes, all switches/connectors etc have some impact on signal.

How much loss is the 64 thousand $ question.

Technomate quote 0.2db loss, I take that with a pinch of salt:eek:

But you could also be seeing ber, and that will stop you watching the channels you want to.

Personally on my set up the loss is so negligible, it doesn't really matter.

I have 2x amico Diseqc 1.1 switches in line, from PC and sat box.

For that setup the switch MUST be after the motor, or when you switch to another port the motor will quit working, you have to use Diseqc 1.2 for the motor to work, but you also have to assign the correct Diseqc switch ports for the LNB's your using.

Out of curiosity, what brand of switch is it (had a lot of problems with a £4 BEST-branded switch - reported here a few weeks ago)?

Also, the receiver needs to be able to stream successive diseqc command sets to the various devices, and sometimes repeat them, for series-connected diseqc devices to work - my 5402 can't do that and I suspect your 5302 can't either.

Looks pretty similar to the cheap ones I was using.

I think the basic problem is the Rx which would need to repeat the commands so that the second device can respond to the second command - the TM probably can't do that whereas my Vu+ and others can be set to do that. Certainly learnt that during all the problems with my cheap switches.

Also the motor must be able to ignore that second command AND pass it through to the second device - as far as I understand, many cheap DiseQc devices can't do that either.

Edited:
I think you may need something like the EMP-Centauri S4/1PCT "uncommitted switch" shown here: EMP-Centauri - DiSEqC switch S4/1PCT-W2 (P.169-TW) which can be set to pass the 2nd command through to the second device. The instruction sheet is here: http://www.emp-centauri.cz/pdf/1003540.pdf. There is a lot of other info on the EMP site which might be useful as well, and their Tech Support is excellent and pretty quick to respond.

That "might" work with it in front of the motor, if the Rx can stream the commands as above - so maybe not with the TM - don't know about your Blade Rx.

NB: Not cheap - mine cost about 30 € posted to the UK (could be more now the £ has dropped against the €). In the end I did not use it (stuck with a "normal" 10-way switch) but keeping it for possible future use. OTOH, would be willing to lend mine to you to try out if you are willing to pay the postage (Paypal Gift) both ways (probably be about £7).
