DiseqC Switching

Hi Everyone,


I hope that someone can help, I have a question of 2 halves


first half:


At our rented apartment we have DM800connected to a Spaun SAR 212F connected to 2 x LNB's for 13E and 19.2E on a fixed dish, I also have a spare IMD2/1K which I believe to be DiseqC 2.0 ( the same as the Spaun SAR212F ), can I cascade these 2 switches to give a 3rd output ? and could the 3rd output be used for a H-H motor or just a 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] LNB ?


second half:


Despite searching I cannot find a complete guide to the switching arrangements for DiseqC switches, does anyone have one ? and can they supply a link to it.

You cannot cascade committed switches. If you want to cascade you will need a combination of committed and uncommitted. Or if you are going to less than 17 LNBs just use uncommitted switches, but they are more expensive. Your cheapest option right now is just to switch to a 4:1 committed. And yes you can control your motor from the 3rd output, or you could put the motor before the switch so the motor current doesn't get drawn through the switch.

Committed = DiSEqC 1.0/2.0,
Uncommitted = DiSEqC 1.1/2.1

Thanks Huevos for the informationregarding committed and uncommitted, before I asked I spent quite abit of time looking at the Spaun Catalogue to see if I could get theinformation I needed but could not find it.


When you mentioned about putting amotor before the switch, do I assume that this switch would be anuncommitted switch , as this could be a possible way of achieving amore versatile set-up than the one I have now with a fixed dish . ( aspare motor, dish and LNB are under the bed in the apartment ).

The set-up of Spaun switch / dish and LNB's all belong to the owner ofthe apartment and cannot be changed for a motor due to noise beingtransmitted though the wooden beams of the chalet, but I possiblycould use a motor located elsewhere on the property to get access tomore satellites either to the west or east, but due to restrictionsand location not both east and west.


I wish there was a guide as I don'tlike asking questions, it must be something you tech guys learnthrough doing it over the years.
