dish angle question???

Hi guys how are you all this evening... Im setting up a motorized dish soon (WEATHER DEPENDANT) but i have attached motor to dish and i just need to know what settings to set. I have got my elevation & longitude they are:
Latitude: 51.9091°
Longitude: -8.4877°

So i plan to use 8w as my reference satellite and my lattitude is 52°, Now reading my motor book it says setting my declination angle is:

35°- declination angle

The table has the headings in this order:

Lattude : 52 Elevation angle: 38 Declination angle: 7.5 Dish Bracket Angle: 27.5

Unfortunately for me my dish bracket only has one scale on it so i assume this is declination angle and also only goes down to 30° but i suppose this aint to much of a problem. My thing is on the motor it has a lattitude scale on either side so im just curious to know what do i set motor to??? do i set it to lattitude being 52 or do i set it to the elevation angle being 38??? from reading on various forums it seems to refer to scale on motor being lattitude/elevation scale. Well hopefully some one will have answer soon thank you.

If the motor is marked LATITUDE then set it to your latitude.


As for your dish setting, you will be adjusting that anyway during installtion, but set it to 27.5 to start with if you want, if that is what the manual says.
 
on the ball guys.. only one scale on motor. and just for a try i set the lattitude on motor to 52 and put the dish bracket to 27.5 and the dish was tilting way up to the sky so it seems that cant be right, think i will just have to set the lattitude to 52 and just mess with dish to get right declination angle. Confused why the motor hand book would give the elevation angle knowing there motor dont have an elevation scale. the hand book says:

SETTING ELEVATION ANGLE:
Adjust the motor elevation angle via the inclinometer or the elevation/ lattitude scale on both sides of the motor according to the lattitude of your position.
 
Check the dish EL bracket isn't upside down. As said leave the dish slightly facing up and it should be close enough to your due South elevation.
 
so once dish is slightly facing up towar sky and lattitude is set to 52 i should pick up my sat if aimed in right direction.
 
Exactly but your need to play with the elevation as you sweep - It's only rough :)
 
As said, check the Dish Bracket is correctly assembled to the Dish.

The fact that your apparent minimum Elevation is too high suggests it's affixed in the wrong mode: The are often reversible to provide for use at a wide range of latitudes and those much further south need the arrangement you've now got!

Take it off and mount it the other way up and you should have access to a more sensible range of movement.
 
hi guys had a short attempt at trying to set up my dish. i aimed for 8w being my due south but could get nothing (BUT AS SAID WAS ONLY A SHORT ATTEMPT), i done it using dish pointer as guideline then i also tried using usals but still no joy although using usals sending dish to 28.2e and messing with dish angle a bit i was able to get a lock on that sat.. what could be wrong guys??

There's something majorly wrong there. You need to use the USALS software and send the dish to a calculated 8W position, then you align by hand to find the satellite. You need either a meter or be able to see the receiver signal test screen. Take a look at the guides at the top of this section :)
 
ya i sends it to that position fiddles with it gets nowhere although sending it too 28.2e or 19.2e i get a good lock on both. should i just focus on 8w so then hopefully it will follow arc..
 
If you can lock onto 28 East with the USALS then you have one side of the arc OK. Next best thing to do is to find a satellite to the west (such as Hispasat 30W).
Signal will be lower than the first one.

Try to do it in steps so you dont lose the first satelite.
When you have channels from both satellites, post the next question.
 
had another short go again today weather against me again, tried starting again from my through south but still couldn get anything, had a friend at reciever while i was at dish but going to invest in a sat finder will any of them work or what??

I am using a dm800 and just few questions on it.....

This is what i done:
(A) I go into service searching go to configuration mode and choose advanced.

(B) Pick satellites i want and enable DISEqC mode 1.2

(C) The i say yes on "Use usals for this satellite" also inputting my data.

Is this method ok guys??

When i was at the dish i had my friend on the sat finder menu and he would watch if bars would increase and whatever in this menu i never changed any of settings except satellite to 8w so basically it would be like this:

Tune Manual transponder
satellite Telecom2D/Atlantic bird2 (8.0w)
System DVB-s
Frequency 11836
Inversion auto
Symbol Rate 27500
Polarity horizontal
FEC Auto

I have seen a thread about strong transponders to use for starting so basically do i need to change my frequency for a good one on 8.0w or should i still be picking up some sort of signal from what i have there??

As said on moving dish to 28.2e i get signal and also have 19.2e and have all the same inputs as above obviously just changing sats so thats why im wondering do i need to change the frequency to get 8.0w. Thanks for your time guys.
 
Not the easiest receiver to use for aligning the dish but yes A, B and C are correct.
 
do you know if my last paragraph is right?? like leaving the default transponder in when i go to satfinder searching for 8.0w. dont i know- in over my head id say but least i managed two for a start.
 
You need to select a suitable live transponder for 8w, Tp 11.010h for example.

My usual recommendation for people new to this lark: try gunning for 5w (AB 3) using 11591 V 20000 or 12543 H 27500. These are basically unmissable in the UK. Getting one of them gives you a lift, helps to build confidence and provides a marker for getting your initial alignment target satellite -- in this case 8w and 1w in many other cases.
 
hi guys was away from my motor dish awhile was on holidays and was waiting to recieve my satellite finder, recieved it today and was able to set up on my due south in minutes and can now follow ther arc good thanks to everyone that replied, great work merry xmas.
