Following in the footsteps of John, I decided to get a cheap day/night cam from Amazon. Mine is not WiFi as the distance would be to great from the router, it is just a a straight hardwired version, and I'm using a spare co-ax to the from the dish to the rig. Quite impressed. For tweaking it ideal if you have a changer. I dug out a little TFT screen I bought from Maplins some years back for a monitor.P1010036.JPG P1010037.JPG P1010038.JPG

Had one for years ...though haven't used my 'dish eye' for a while ..
I found it most useful for checking on tree growth that might have obscured Christinas C-band reception.
It was a self levelling camera so always adjusted to give a level image relative to arc position..

tried in vain to find a link on the forum to this project ...
I guess it was too long ago ...and may have been deleted...

Chris, what camera are you using? I currently happen to have a spare coax over that end, and is something I was looking to do for a while.

My Satellite Setup
OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC
My Location
Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
Watch out for when the Sun is directly in-line with the dish, (twice a year) this could cause a CCD burnout if you don't use a camera with an auto iris.

But surely, the LNB is in the way if the dish is aligned correctly?

Just read the last page, impressive and very well done.
Also reminded me why I don´t watch CH5 very often :p
Still a good idea though, otherwise this thread would be pointless, which it obviously isn´t

That is a good point to bring up, the pic shows my original prototype mounting position which just had a small bit of intrusion , the final cut on my installation was to bring the camera position forward 50mm and also use a lower profile camera.

There would be enough direct light even with some shade from the LNB to turn the CCD chip into chipped beef on toast.

But why look up at the satellites??? You can't see them, I would mount it underneath the LNB's looking horizontal and have a look into the rooms next door.
