This isnt going to be on the scale of garyg's epic story but Ive decided to revamp my dish farm.

As most of the forum members will know know I use a variety of scruffy old second hand dishes for my reception. I have a decidedly second hand 80cm for my 10E feeds, but Ive decided to replace it with an aluminium Orbital 1m dish because every time the rain arrives many of the the signals disappear!

Thanks to forum sponsor sat-europa for rapid delivery of the said item - it was ordered at 22.30 on Monday night and delivered to my workplace Wednesday afternoon.

If the weather is nice tomorrow I'll be starting work on the new install - and I think its about time the last car tyre mount was retired  I'll be taking plenty of pics & posting them on the thread in the hope that my simple dish mounts & installs will give folks new to the hobby some ideas of what can be done on a small budget.

Problem is of course when Ive finished the dish renovations Im going to want a new receiver. Those Duo Vu+'s look very tasty :-worship Shame they dont do 4:2:2

This has promise!

It must be many times lighter than my ancient bombproof steel 1m monstrosity, but I can still see that fence post buckling under the strain!

I think that dented old 80cm dish from the last century is performing more like a 70cm compared to the 80cm dishes of today.

So by my rough calculations, supposing it is performing like a 70cm, upgrading to the 1m will be near to effectively doubling the dish size, about x 1.8. So it will be interesting to see just how big the improvement is.

Adding an Inverto Black Ultra LNB would help a lot as well.

Christmas is getting closer! :-googly

:-humbug

NO, NO, NO, this is the stuff of legends.
Many a man has cracked out the Worthers origonals sat their grandchildren on their knees and told them tales from afar of car tyre mounted satellite dishes.

Definately the end of an era.

And I can't sell my Zip Tie Shares as the Stock Exchange is closed.

Well Ive made the dish changes, up but Ive lost most of my signals! At the moment I havent got a clue whats gone wrong.... Looks like I'll be watching 19E tonight as thats about all Ive got left.... :(

Oh and the dreambox has gone horribly unstable and keep locking up as Im trying to change satellites. It was switched off round the back whilst I was tinkering so I doubt Ive done any damage to it that way.

Well there's always lots of help and advice available here .....................

Looks like I put a faulty lnb onto the 19E dish - Ive disconnected it and the signals reappeared!

The alignment isnt quite right on the new 1m dish but that can be tweaked in the morning - its good enough for now.

What a pain!

Perhaps the dreambox is not communicating properly with the switch? The EMP Centauri and Spaun 1.2 ones are easy, 2.0+ and cascade ones are tricky!

Good one!

Time for a Pint?

After all the excitement, will he have a pint of builders tea or a can of special brew?

Magners pear cider :D

koppaberg pear is nice drink too if only some nice swedish blonde women could serve it up for me anyway....

you say the vu+ duo wont do 4:2:2 but cant you stream it to the pc like you can do with dreambox with vlc ?

I really like the Orbital 1m dish I have, it has a very high gain and works well with a black line ultra. I also found it has a narrow focus and works well on 26E for me. I hope you will be as pleased with yours.

Its my second one :). Ive had a steel one on 16E/23E/28E for years.

Just about to put some pics up in the members setups section.
