Dish size for Villefranche-du-Périgord

My Satellite Setup
Vu+ duo with a 300gb hdd also dm500 and tecnomate 5200 with a 1m and 1.1m motorized dishes and minidish fixed to 28.2

Hi All


As the thread is going with fringe reception of the new birds going up i thought this would be a good time to ask this question.This September i will be installing a dish here Villefranche-du-Périgord, France for freesat using a sky hd box. Obviously i don't want any problems when the new birds go up so i was thinking a 1.2m gibi with the black ultra my thinking on this wold be that if on the south coast people will be using a zone 1 minidish this will be sufficient. Also my last question for the ex-pats in France is where can i source a gibi as im driving and not bringing a gibi in the car as this space is reserved for the bbq and tent for my trip around the Normandy coast then oradour sur gland for a educational holiday....:p:p

Normandy Coast? Not too far from me then!! As regards the 1.2 Gibi (which sounds a little OTT to me but you may be right to take a belt and braces approach) this is the firm I use in France and his page of large dishes :

He stocks the Gibi but you might want to look at the Laminas which is the same one that I use. I've never had any hassle with them and delivery has usually been quite quick. At the moment people round here are using Zone 1 dishes without a problem, though I wouldn't to allow for a rain margin. Unless there is a really dramatic fall off at the edge of the footprint when the new birds go up, I would have thought a 1M was enough even where your install is.

Haven't ever been further south than Nantes but will one day. Definitely on my list is Oradour Sur Glane.
 
Yes. it's difficult one. Ordinarily I would have said 80cm would do the job and there's every chance it still will when 2F arrives but...

Yes there's that "but". We just don't know. I'm adopting a wait-and-see approach with my dish in France ATM. I'm keeping my 80cm up but have a 90cm dish waiting just in case. I've also advised some English friends the other side of the village to wait until next year before spending money on a two satellite multiswitch setup as they are are not satellite dish lovers (I know, hard to understand) and may not want to go larger than 80cm on their property.

Having said that 1.2m would give some terrific rain fade margin. I would expect to see the four horsemen of the apocalypse galloping overhead before I lost Cash in the Attic with that setup!
 
Take an old 60cm dish with you in the car - pick one up for nothing at your local car boot sale in the UK.

I am as far south as you but many miles to the east in the Alps and my 60cm has not let me down yet, even in rain.
 
Thanks for all the reply's guys. I will use a 1.1m triax for the setup and I will be using it for the full sky package when I'm out there so hopefully it will work fine I not I can always use it for 7w as I've never seen that bird as I live just outta range.

Today fixed up an old Technomate 5500 receiver with a small single LNB Selfsat- H30D flat antenna. Picked up 28.2 easily and good signal for all the listed channels. I'm in SW France between Ruffec and La Rochelle.
