DM 500s with DS2 image not booting

Lads the mate asked me to try and fix his 500s. IT has the Darkstar2, its a clone and had been working fine up to now. When you turn it on the DS2 logo just keeps flashing on and off. I have tried to get into it with Dreamup and my usb-rs232 cable that I normally use but no joy. Anything else I should try?

I had the same problem when i downloaded a new image and something happened during the transfer. The logo came up and went off and wouldn't do anything else. It wouldn't connect with DCC. Apparantly after all the reading i have done on the dreambox a lot of people say that usb rs232 is very problamatic and advise to use a normal null modem cable. Are you sure yours is a Null modem?. I ordered one from a shop which didnt work as it wasn't null modem as soon as i got the right cable i have had no other problems and have installed the image a couple of times since using dreamup and cable. Are you sure that the power cable is unplugged until you are told by dreamup to power on?

Problem is now resloved. What the problem was I am not sure as I was trying various things. I am now able to Dreamup into the box and have flashed new image.
