My DM 8000 will be here Wed and I have been reading up as much as I can. Even found the instruction manual posted by LLew, many thanks, it helped alot knowing a little beforehand.
I am fitting a hard drive and dvd rw models as suggested in the forum.

1. Will I need a fan and if so is there one that runs only when needed?
2. I should be getting a Diablo wi fi cam, ordered one went missing in the post, is there any problems with it regarding the DM 8000?
3. I need to tidy up the chaos with all the boxes,Wii, Virgin box, HDD recorder etc. If I get extra tuners, DVB-T & DVB-C can I just use the DM8000?

Thanks Oldfart. I did a search for DM fan and it never came up. Knew I had read something somewhere but my brain is frozen at the mo.

A good guide, but I suggest that you upload your file here too rather than sending members off to another forum.

Sorry if I have caused any friction. I must admit Satellites UK is where I started around 3 years ago and always my first place of visit. Obviously I need to get things right, hate to screw up an £800 receiver and as eager as I am to get it all plugged in and running I also do not want to mess it up through my stupidity. Off to find a good fan for the hard drive and will see about a fan for the power supply when I get the receiver.

No need to apologise TJ, no rules broken by anyone. Just that it'd be useful to have oldfart's info here for our DB8000 owners. Enjoy your box when it arrives.

I asked a mate in computer hardware about the cooling of the DM 8000. He did a bit of research and told me to get 2 good 60mm fans, 1 for the HDD and the other to cool the power supply area. He reccomended Acousti Fans. OK but they aren't cheap but no point in asking for advice if I am not taking it. As he said, you don't buy an Audi Quattro and fit remould tyres.......

I have a HDD and DVD drive in my 8000 and it doesn't suffer from heat problems. I have not fitted any extra fans.

Maybe I am being over cautious having read about overheating. DM fit a bracket for a fan so its likely they consider its best and whilst the power supply getting very hot is an old problem I think its worth a few quid to be on the safe side.
