Hi guys, could anyone tell me please, does the DM8000 offer an output selection at first boot like the DM800 does ? So you select DVI or scart or whatever ?

If so, say you select DVI and use the DVI to HDMI to your primary TV , does the box offer any other output that can be used at the same time ?

For example, you have it using DVI all ok, can I take an output from the scart socket to another TV ? If so , what about when watching a HD channel, is the scart output still available, downscaled perhaps ?

Thanks guys.

Yes, you have a choice of outputs on first install or changing images as with the DM800.

I'll check on available outputs, trying to find a suitable connector online ATM for my slimline DVD burner - the one supplied has the wrong SATA/power cable :-Nooo

Leaving the Dreambox on DVI, Scart is always active for supplying to your other TV. RCA output also available, and S-Video.

Switching the box to YPbPr will of course lose the DVI output, but all other outputs remain.

Sorry, forgot your other point. HD channels give excellent quality through the Scart connection.

Great stuff thanks for your help mate. I'll be using scart output to an RF converter as I have several TV's in the house wired from a loftbox via coax. My 7025 gives me a very good picture using its direct RF output and I was dissapointed to find Dream had removed it from the DM8000 spec. This simple work around will do me just fine.
Thanks again,
MCC.

The DB800/8000 uses a custom DVI - HDMI cable which carries digital video+audio. No need for separate audio cable to your TV if that was what you are concerned about.

zbug, Dream were denied a HDCP license for the DM8000 most likely because of its capabilities. Thats the reason for the lack of a HDMI socket.

High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a form of digital copy protection developed by Intel Corporation [1] to prevent copying of digital audio and video content as it travels across DisplayPort, Digital Visual Interface (DVI), High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), Gigabit Video Interface (GVIF), or Unified Display Interface (UDI) connections, even if such copying would be permitted by fair use laws. The specification is proprietary, and implementing HDCP requires a license.

For DVI interfaces, HDCP is optional.

HDCP is licensed by Digital Content Protection, LLC[5], a subsidiary of Intel. In addition to an annual fee, licensed adopters agree to the conditions set forth in the HDCP License Agreement.[6] For example, high-definition digital video sources must not transmit protected content to non-HDCP-compliant receivers. Additionally, DVD-Audio content is restricted to CD-audio quality or less[6] on non-HDCP-digital audio outputs (analog audio outputs have no quality limits). Licensed adopters cannot allow their devices to make copies of content, and must design their products in ways that "effectively frustrate attempts to defeat the content protection requirements."[6] The technology sometimes causes handshaking problems, especially with older high-definition displays.[

very well put that man.

Now i understand very clearly why an 8000 doesn't carry HDMI, it will make these people who think HDMI was everything when it comes to HD think again.

It looks like these scientists at DMM think very cleverly in what they do before they even begin work on the box.

EDIT

does this mean that because DVI is non-HDCP compliant, that when watching a movie on DVD, you would only get CD quallity, unless you obviously have an amplifier or something to put the quallity back into digital or HD or whatever?

Hi there

Just a Question i would like answered that i think is quite important.
Does the Dream8000 support for example Dual Outputs of Video Aspect Ratio's ?
What i mean is , Can i select it to output 16:9 via DVI, and 4:3 via Analogue Scart/RCA Video Output.

The Reason i ask, is i have a Pace HDi Box that has HDMI aswell as your Typical Analogue Component/Scart/RCA/SVHS outputs.
In the Setup Menu the user can define separate Aspect Ratios for both HDMI and Analogues.
In my situation this rocks, as i watch my PTV directly from the Receiver on my 16:9 panel using HDMI, and output Analogue in 4:3 Mode for my older 4:3 Sets throughout the house. All simutaneously..

Can anyone confirm ???

Cheers:

I'm not connected to a 4:3 TV, but in the DB8000's A/V settings, you can disable wide screen signalling to the scart of any transmission using 16:9, so that should in theory give you a 4:3 picture on your other TV's. That's assuming the signal is being sent from the channel in question!

Gidday Llew

I think what your meaning is the 16:9 Flagging signal that you can select to be sent via Scart output to a monitor that needs the 16:9 Flagging signal to let it know what Ratio to switch to.

The Setting I'm talking about is basically Two entirely separate Video Output settings. One that Deals with just the DVi out on its own - Which includes other settings such as Upscaling , pass through etc..
The Other Video settting is for the Analogue Outputs - which cover your typical RCA, Scart outputs.

The latest Pace HD receivers are pretty well thought outm and cover this exceptionally well.

I would expect Dream to have thought out this themselves while in there design stages.

I need to know this as i want to upgrade from my 7020s to the 8000..

Hi Mate

I can only give you screenshots of the A/V setup menu, that's all I can find for A/V options. As I say I don't have a 4:3 TV connected to experiment with. Hope it helps.

Hi Llew.

Your a legend Mate.. Thanks for the Shots, Awesome.
I think your right.. Looking at the way that is set up, it could give separate independant Video Output control.

Will be good if someone could confirm this.. Possibly theres someone out that could test this ?..

Once again, Thanks for your effort.

Cheers

Just hooked up a portable 4:3 TV to the DB8000 scart. Yes, shows the correct aspect ratio of 4:3 on 16:9 sources.

Hi Llew.

So you can confirm that simutaneously you have a 16:9 source running from the Dm8000 on your 16:9 Panel In 16:9 Widescreen.. And at the same time display that 16:9 format programme in 4:3 Letterbox on a 4:3 set ???

Thats basically what i'm looking for .

Cheers:

Yes Ren, that's exactly as it appears. 16:9 on LCD panel and 4:3 letterbox on portable.

So can I just confirm, in summary to the above, you can have simultaneous outputs, e.g. the picture showing in high def 16:9 on your LCD/Plasma and also an output in 4:3 or 16:9 showing the same picture to a TV or other device connected to the Scart?
