Why didn't they put a HDMI port on this machine?

Is there a DVI+audio to HDMI connector cable?

You can simply use your supplied DVI to HDMI cable and you will have both Video and Audio on your LCD Tv.
 
Using an HDMI port is subject to paying a licence fee: DVI isn't. As Zorbua says you have to use the special DVI to HDMI lead that comes with the receiver - an ordinary DVI to HDMI isn't wired properly to get the sound through.

Its not a normal DVI port then? DVI doesn't usually carry audio.
 
No it's not , its a custom version. Dream have recently moved to using HDMI outputs, the DM500HD is HDMI and I'm lead to believe the upcoming DM7020HD and the revised DM800SE will both carry HDMI.
 
The DVI/HDMI custom cable uses the analogue RGB interface pins for outputting audio.
 
Is there a custom DVI-DVI cable with a breakout cable for audio? My LCD-TV has DVI, but not HDMI. Will the DM800 output audio on the scart audio pins, even if DVI is selected as video out?
 
Scart output is always active whatever other output you select.
 
yep I can vouch for that, I use the scart output from my DM8000 and convert it to UHF to send it all around my house whilst using the DVI-HDMI to output in HD to my main TV.

Hi B16MCC,

I want to do the same.
What would be the cheapest / best way to do this.

a simple scart to UHF / RF converter. Fleebay or Maplins for example, about £10-20. Scart out from the 8000 / 800 into the converter, then coax to your distribution amp or direct to other TV.
 
Just to say, it is not the cable that is specially wired for the audio, it is the DVI port in the reciever. I use both a 5m HDMI-DVI and a 5m HDMI extension cable without any problems at all.
