I use a Dreambox 800HD for my satellite TV.

Upstairs I stream it through my laptop using some streaming software called 'Tunisia-sat dreambox player&streamer 6.0.0'

However, when I stream HD channels the software I use crashes or goes extremely slow.

Does this mean my laptop cannot take the HD signal or something?

If anyone knows how to get the HD stream running perfect please let me know.

Thanks.

The HD is probably using a hell of a lot of processing power. If its running out of resources then you probably need a newer laptop :D

do you know of a machine, comp, laptop etc that i can solely use for streeaming it upstairs?

Hi @ash213,

Before you rush out and buy a new laptop.......it could be a bandwidth problem on your LAN network!
How do you connect the bedroom laptop to your router?

In the early days of HD, when there were HD channels that could be streamed by my DM7000S, I could not stream them via WiFi. Even close to the router, 802.11g WiFi did not give enough bandwidth for HD channels. The German high bit rate SD channels (7 to 8Mb/s) are fine but over this rate and it soon runs stuttery, slow or not at all. Changing to a 10/100 ethernet wired connection to the router and all was fine.

So if you have not yet tried an ethernet cable connection from router to laptop, then 'give it a whirl'. If it cures the problem, then a new laptop in the bedroom is most unlikely to help.

Best wishes, John.

BTW, I streamed 15Mb/s HD via ethernet cable, using VLC, to my Asus EeePC 700 Netbook with no processor problem, despite its slow processor.
