Do satellites identify themselves?

I am just wondering if satellites, especially the ones that we are interested in here, send precise identification signature?
We are all accustomed to using a receiver that has a satellite menu to choose from and then after a successful set up you get your channels and the name of the satellite which is according to the setup menu but not as a result of each satellite identifying itself somehow.
Think how much easy it would be while trying to install a dish and you get a voice message that is "This Astra 1M on the Wide band beam".
My guess is that there is such a signature but not to ordinary people, or we need a special equipment for that.
Any thoughts on this?
 
To my limited knowledge, very few satellites have synthetic voice modulators built in, and as they very rarely meet each other on the belt, I guess there is no need for it. However, many satellite detectors can identify the satellite by it´s beacon. So when I line a dish up, pick up on the spectrum a signal, I wait a while and the Emitor normally tells me which satellite I´m aiming at, though to date, none have ever introduced themselves in such a polite manner.

The synthetic voice would help with "Blind Scan".
The reason why this is not done is because the EU haven't decided yet which language to use for the voice.
So you can see the beacon's signature? that's interesting and how precise is it?
Can you show us a photo next time you get the chance? Thanks.

Not sure how much use a synthetic voice would be with blind scan. Normally you have to lock on the satellite and then perform the blind scan, and if you were actually blind I don´t think you would be setting up a dish anyway, definitely not on the top of a three section ladder.
Regarding the language of such a voice, if such a voice existed? Chinese ( including all variations ) is the most widely spoken, English could be an option as it is pretty much agreed to be the International Trading Language, followed closely by Spanish ( including all variations ) , however Esperanto would be the European choice?
The beacon identity seems very good to me, to my knowledge is rarely wrong, others may have a different opinion.

Most satellites (if not all) broadcast a "network identifier" (along with a "Transports stream" ID) on nearly all transponders which most receivers are capable of displaying - even a Sky Dodgibox displays it in it's signal strength display. E.g. Astra 1 is 0001, Astra 2 is 0002 and 13E is 013E.
