Do they bill you if you don't insert?

I've got a friend who received the SKY card a week ago after 2 weeks of waiting (it's been 3 weeks since the installation). The card covers 2 mixes (entertainment and music). She asks what is going to happen if she only initially inserts the card just before Christmas? Will she be billed any day now anyway for the first month with SKY, or will the billing start end of January if she puts the card in second half of December? How does it work?
 
If it's her first card she'll need to have it authorised and paired. Not sure heher $ly will suspend charges until she phones up but I strongly suspect that they won't!

Well the card isn't activated until it is put in the box and either a phonecall is made, or the new installation option in the installer menu is used, this then makes the box call Sky and pair the card.

I don't think that you will be billed until the card is activated, but you really need to ring Sky and confirm this.
