Do you leave a tip at the barbers?

My former neighbour cuts mine - she comes to our home, has a chat with the wife, arranges future childminding for us, does my hair with No3 and No2 electric clipper and often my son's hair too.

Closest to a tip she gets is coffee and biscuits - is that good enough to be consider a 'tip'?

I always used to tip the hairdresser when I went to a shop, but haven't done that in a long time, as I have my own clippers now.

i sometimes give a tip but not always. it costs me £5.30 for 1 on back n sides and trim on the top so i can put gel in and mess it up a bit lol

i don't know why some go to these tony n guy places and pay like 30 quid a time must be nice eye candy in them

Since I started this thread (nearly 2 years ago) I have also joined the buzz club and invested in a pair of clippers.

Number 6 on top, 4 then 3 then 2 down the back and sides. I'm happy with this and the clippers have more than paid for themselves

Somehow I missed voting first time round but it must be nearly 30 years since I graced a barbers or even a men's hairdressers.

Strictly a Wahl man now. No 4 on the top and sides and No 3 for my straggly beard. Usually done myself with the aid of a mirror although sometimes my wife trims off at the nape of the neck. I've offered to cut her hair for but for some strange reason she has declined.

Hmmmm - anyone else think this hread is getting "a bit too much information"? LOL

The usual haircut at my barber shop is 50 NIS (New Shekel, about 7 pounds) and I always leave them a tip of 10 NIS in appreciation for their good work and for sequeezing me in any time I feel like having a cut.
I believe that the tipping helps.
My impression is that most other customers don't leave a tip, especially the ladies, in spite of the fact that they get more time and the barber inhales all those nasty chemical materials for colouring the ladies hair.
