Some of you may know there was a special proms night recently dedicated just to Doctor Who

Heres a clip of the main theme music played live and complete with Cyberman terrorising the audience!!

It works remarkably well for a live performance

Pathetic.
An insult to the show and the theme music which has evolved over the decades.

Sorry, I disagree. It's a great way of getting the public, and especially the younger viewers, involved.

The last one, two years ago, was a good hour's viewing and I'm looking forward to watching this one.

Better to wait for Friday when there's a 90 minute version.

Why doesn't Star Trek ever get such praise? :(

I found it thoroughly enjoyable and I must disagree with NP. (Perhaps he got out of the wrong side of the reactor this morning)

It has done. There have been some of the greats writing scores over the whole franchise, Horner and Goldsmith to name a couple

Well, you don't see (well, Hear) Star Trek from any period at the proms, not even the latest movie's score... :(

I guess I'm just biassed, I'm a Trekkie, not a Whosie.... :p
(though the current theme does sound pretty good, it has a nice beat to it)

There's no reason you can't be both!

Whilst I would probabl;y be a Trekker not a Trekkie (not sure if there's the same distinction for Whovians) I can be a fanboy as much as anyone. Indeed a few months ago there was an matinee of SciFi themed music played by the RLPO at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool. From memory they played the (then) latest Who theme, the classic Trek theme (albeit with the revised TNG voiceover) and Thunderbirds amongst others. They also sprinkled in a few Classical gems such as Mars from the Planets Suite.

You would have enjoyed it 2CV. It wouldn't have been too far for you I would have thought.

I'm suspicious about where they really got the name for the Dyson Sphere from.

Well, the Dyson Sphere came about cos of the ideas of Freeman Dyson, as described in the Star Trek TNG episode "Relics", but James Dyson couldn't name his rubbish vacuum the Sphere cos the name was already patented, or something, so, yeah, someone dropped the ball on him there... :D
