A toaster and a kettle are energy inefficient? Devices designed to concentrate heat directly to where it's needed to do the job quickly and effectively are wasting energy? What a load of bovine excrement...

I've owned crap kettles in the past, and they didn't save energy despite being a pittance in wattage, they just took a lot longer to do the job, and the longer something takes, the less efficient I see it being, one of the worst offenders I had was a travel kettle, 10 minutes to boil, an before it boiled at least an 8th of the water evaporated out before it was done, so, inefficient low-wattage piece of crap...

And as for toasters, they're the most efficient way to turn bread products into toast!! Using a grill or other means to toast bread are costly, impractical and very dangerously energy inefficient (using the logic of the stupid polytickians), so how the hell is a toaster "inefficient"?? I dunno, I wish polytickians would just stop interfering in things they blatantly have zero understanding of...

Politics, Poly is many, Ticks are blood-sucking parasites...

Very true 2cv, travel kettles are 1kw most modern household leccy kettles are 3kw elements.

Agree. A nice cup of tea and a slice of Marmite on toast. Heaven, unadulterated by interfering busybodies.

For a laugh, I've been following Rhik Samadder's kitchen gadget testing for some time courtesy of The Guardian, and this one takes the biscuit (digestive of course) -

Kitchen gadgets review: Tea Maker from Sage – ‘like a unicorn rebranded as a sharp horse’

Check out some of his other tests, they're a hoot.

How about; outlawing large mugs to reduce water consumption, or in similar vein, limiting kettle size to 500ml so proles won't waste energy by heating too much water?

I'm wasted here; should be in Brussels exploiting my stupidity and making life difficult for everyone else!

Yeah the biggest waste of energy (and time!) is filling the kettle to the top to boil water for one small mug...

I can see it now, someone has 6 people over for a brew and a chat, the law on kettles mandates they be 500ml and 200 Watts, taking 20 minutes to boil and can't make more than two cups (or one proper cup) at a time, taking an hour just for six cuppas... :-rofl2

The power of vaccuum cleaners is to be further reduced by 2017

Isn't there a term in economics describing this kind of behavior?

I love gadgets and would buy that Heston kettle if I was a tea drinker.

They can keep their grubby mitts off my Tristar CXL, it's the most powerful (performance and power (1200w-ish) usage-wise) vacuum I have... :D

Only a V6 eh? Mine's a V8... :D
