Dr Who with Matt Smith

Despite last night's show not being 100% perfect, least we can now eraze from our memory banks the awful Piper Billie, Jack Captain, and the absolutely DIRE David Tennant.

Not the mention the truly awful RTD.

Whilst last night's script was rather weak, I have to hand it to Matt Smith and Karen Gillan.

Their performances were quite good, and I now have my optimism back. :-righton

Well just goes to prove how subjective this all is, as I quite liked David Tennant and Billie Piper, this guy seems quite good though and Karen Gillan is a little cutie. ;)

Not sure who or what RTD is.

I thoroughly enjoyed the opening episode. About half way, I'd forgotten about David Tennant (and his performance in the role was excellent I thought) and totally believed in Matt Smith. I hope he will continue to inject the same amount of humour into the program as he did last night. He seems to have got the balance between lingering traces of the old doctor and introducing his own foibles and nuances just right.

What can I say about the new assistant? When she appeared in that uniform with a very tight, short skirt, I thought, 'seriously sexy!' From the above postings, it looks like I wasn't alone!!

Long may Matt Smith play the Doctor, I for one am already converted

Well, last nights script suggested she also has nun and nurse costumes in her wardrobe, so I would expect there to be a few more in the next few episodes.

Let's not take away from RTD his truly magnificent feat of resurrecting the franchise. Without him we wouldn't be discussing Matt Smith's version of the Doctor. That's not to say that he's not above criticism. I truly cringed at the sequence in season 3, last episode: Last of the Time Lords where he has the Doctor floating across the room towards the Master in a pose that looks distinctly Messianic. There are others I could mention but that really grated.

But we're not here to talk about the last Doctor (which BTW I thought was extremely well played by David Tennant). What of the new one?

I think the best quote I have found is from Steven Moffat who says that the Doctor is played by an actor who just happens to be 27. Really his age is irrelevant as it's the performance that matters; and what a performance! I hope that there willbe less running around in future episodes as it became a bit wearisome in previous episodes but last night was a good start. Once the Doctor had found his new clothes things just clicked into place.

I just LOVED the montage of previous Doctors which really played to the Whovian in me. Other bright points: The larger TARDIS interior, although I reserve judgement on he new console. The new Doctor's clothes which really hang well on Matt Smith's frame. The definition in HD. Oh yes, and Karen Gillan.

Not so good points: just happening to find a suitable fire engine, driving AND sending a text message, te clunky scene with trapping the old Doctor's tie in the car door.

That'll do for now. The first episode is always the scene setter. The next ones are the ones that are important.

I think they should go back to the old format as it was those storylines that kept the show going for all these years.-PP

Whenever one of the recordings I set up for her fails, which isn't all that often, I get hit with claim that "it's funny how it's always one of MINE that fails, never yours!". As If I would ever do it deliberately...

A few weeks ago I was complaining about totally blank DVD Recordings and advised in no uncertain manner that such nasties definitely don't happen with PVRs.

Mere propaganda, I now realise
