Hi all this is my first post and dabble with dream boxes.

From what I have read it is possible to serve your sky viewing card I currently have 2 Sky HD boxes in multi room but I would like to the serve the card of one of the boxes over my LAN and use receivers in each room to watch different channels on.

Is this possible and what equipment would I need to do this

If you get 2 HD dreambox's and you have a lan connection in each room than that is all you need.

The setting up of the dreambox's takes some time so I suggest you do some reading on the subject first.

All the info you need is already on the board and should you get stuck there will always be plenty of members here willing to help you with technical setup problems.

Thanks for that sonic1.

I want to serve 4 TV's so do I need 3 boxes + the Sky HD box or 4 dream boxes?

The existing HD box you have needs to be taking out of the equation completely. You can't card share with official Sly boxes as they are closed (that is, you cannot connect to or modify them in any way*).

So, for what you need you will need to have 4 card sharing capable boxes in the 4 rooms you want to watch from. The don't nessacarily have to be Dreamboxes, most Linux based receivers will do as will PCs with Linux or Windows (although Windows can only view a shared card, not host one)

*It looks close to being able to install an Enigma2 image on a Sky HD box.

Thanks

I don't think you can run enigma on a sky box. I have read some people trying various things with it, but what's the point if you can do it on a dreambox or the likes.

SkY HD boxes do not run Enigma or Enigma2. If you have multiroom then the cards HAVE to be in the Sky boxes and the boxes connected to the telephone line, so they can check whether you have 'lent' your card to a different address. So the first things to understand:
1. You cannot have multiroom, just a single subscription - this means you cannot use your Sky boxes at all, but have to keep at least one available to fix card problems.
2. For each location you want to watch TV you would need a dreambox or equivalent.
3. Based on your questions, you have a LOT of reading to do on this forum. I would do this before buying a dreambox, so you know what you are getting in to.
4. Card sharing in any form is a breach of your Sky contract and you can be prosecuted for it (except for multiroom from Sky).

What shumifan has said re the sky multi-room terms is correct , but here is my experience. I had sky multi-room and never had my boxes connected, I got into dreamboxes in early 2008 and decided I wanted another card around July 08 so I could tinker around without disrupting my wife n kids viewing and so I contacted Sky. I told them I did not want a multi room sub but that I wanted a full paying sub as I didnt want to connect it to the phone line as I wanted it for a caravan. They said I needed a permanent address different than my home address for another full paying sub. I said it was a static caravan and that mail could be delivered to the address site the van was on. They said it wasnt possible and I didnt push it as I did not want to draw attention that I was already on multi-room and not connecting via phone line with any of them. Two days later i got a call from a South African guy who said he was senior manager from Sky. He asked me to go through again with him what I wanted. After a brief conversation about that and a long conversation about the Giants Causeway and the North West 200 motorcylcle races he said he would issue me another multi room card for my static caravan.

I accept that this is probably not a normal occurence but it shows that every £ they can get from you does matter to them and rules can be bent.

I have to agree with tomthebomb1968, I've got multiroom and have never had the boxes connected to a line since the day they were installed.

Hey lads can we knock off with the idiotic alternative spellings of Sky -- Sly / S*y etc.

It might have been mildly amusing once many years ago but after seeing it a few hundred thousand times it gets exceedingly tiresome to read. :)

Ive edited most of the occurrences in this thread :D

Firstly Please write in proper English on this forum If you insist on writing that ridiculous txt spk you will be thrown off the board.

Secondly we are a UK based forum and you are asking us how to defraud the UK pay tv service. Not going to happen bud. If we give you instructions like that the Sky security goons could

(a) get us closed down in no time flat

(b) set their VERY expensive lawyers on whoever had helped you, and Im pretty sure none of the members or staff can afford the sorts of lawyers that Sky can

We KNOW the security goons monitor the forums, so please dont ask again.

You are wasting your time anyway - it looks like Sky have started implementing anti card sharing procedures in the last week or so - and about time too.

Could you please give me some links to the specific threads relating to this. I could not find them and would like to learn about this as well. I am a newbie but tech-savy, so should be able to figure out what is said if I can just find the right topic to use 2 DM in one house with wireless broadband and 1 cardsharing.

The info is spread across multiple topics - you need to understand that if you want to learn the basics of card sharing you have to spend many hours

tinkering
reading
starting again
reading
scratching your head,
swearing at the receiver
searching for info
tinkering
etc

It can take months to master the basics, and if your not willing to start to put the work in by using the forum search function then you will have to do without.
