You will need to use the Null modem cable, then no reset required, it will be like a brand new box.

A link for what?? Use the seach function, it is all there. Look for the "usual links" thread in this section, or the idiot guide link page.

The image has been put on by his m8 hmm So his [m8] has probably set the password so he can access the box remotley so he can either help or change settings if he is leeching the card off your box :-doh2

no he showed me his system and i liked it so he got me one. now he thought "oh i can sell them to people and make money" which turned him into a real ass about it. He knows nothing about DB yet he claims to know it all when acually he just gets the program sent to him just like he sends it to me. If i went to him asking all this stuff, he 1) would get mad and 2) wouldnt know but would pretend to. it's a different story everytime. OK so now you know the truth and mabey can understand now why i want to get this going on my own for my own good! Thanks truely

Ok then for a fresh start, Read the idiots guide, Flash your box with
Gemini 4.2maxvar. Once you do this come back and ask when you hit the next hurdle.
The tool to load gemini is dreamup.
Google search gemini and you will find it
Dreamup can be found on the dreambox home page.:)

Remember that when you flash the box you will loose any special setup that your friend may have done on your box and then you end up asking for his help. So try to check your exact setup before you delete everything.
When you say he sends you a program, perhaps you mean a text file that can be editted with any text editor?
Also, did you install any CAM and which one do you use?

I'll download the Gemini 4.2maxvar and put it on with dreamUp ( I already have all the programs) If I something goes wrong and I want to take a break and watch TV I can just re-load the file with DreamUp that he sends. Its a single IMG that he sends through e-mail, i extract it (still only that one IMG, not a pile of files etc. And i put it on with dreamup and boom I have TV. Ok off to try it your way! Thanks so far guys! After reading and reading for days it really gets tiring even though thats the name of the game, so thanks for the specific help you are giving me.

by the way i'm in North America would that matter with the Gemini 4.2maxvar ? I believe you guys are in Europe. I won't speak anything more about the North American stuff as I was sort of told not to earlier on here but I was wondering if that would matter which one I used. Thanks

I hope that I am mistaken, but after you flash with Gemini 4.2maxvar and setup the satellite with scanning, you will be able to watch only FTA channels.
When you reflash again with *.img file that he sends you, you will overwrite the Gemini 4.2maxvar image.
This means you will always depend on your friend's files.
To be independent, you should be able to make changes yourself (edit files) without the need to reflash.
Can you report which software version do you have?
menu > information > about (I think, just from memory)
and it should be at the bottom of the popup page

Yeah I will check which software version I have tomorrow for you.
Yes it would just overwrite it. That's why my intentions are to:

Connect to DreamBoxEdit. Then make a copy of the program on my box. Then whenever my dreambox freezes, I will have everything there, just replace the keys with new ones that I download off a site. Then load up the program with the new keys on it and have TV.

Does that make sence? I hope so. Let me know what you think. If it will work then the problem remains as original: I can connect to dreamboxedit but my user name and password wont let me connect the other other half, or log on to my box if you will.

* I believe its called keys that I would have to change on my program to have tv again, after they scramble my current box setup and my TV freezes. (I know I'm not supose to mention this stuff)

As I wrote in post # 13, you don't need the user name and password if you use Tux Commander to edit any text file.
If you haven't tried it yet, I think it might be worth it to test as it will give you some flexibility and without the need to change images.
A Dreambox Keyboard would be very useful for this, but you can also use the remote (takes a bit more time)

Whats Tux Comander? Is it like dreamboxedit? Is it on my DB or PC? It sounds like its right on the DB. If so how would that help me put new keys on once they scramble it and my tv freezes

All the information is in the Idiot's Guide. Look for Tuxbox Commander.
If you have a Gemini Image and a router connected to the internet, then you can install it to your box from

Blue Button > Addons > download (Gemini-Server) > Plugins (32 entries) > Tuxcom 1.16 - 08.04.2007

After installation, open it from the plugin submenu

Blue Button > Plugins
