This morning I woke up and the picture on the dream box had frozen. I sweitched it off at the back and switche dit back on again. But it now seems to be dead. Has anyone got and ideas why or if theres a common fault with them ?

I have a another box which is a a fortect star are these any good and if so what sort of channels can I get and how ?? Thanks

Is this a cloned 500 ? or is it the 7020 ?

Switch it off for a long time, 1 hour or so, and try again

How dead is it ? Won´t it even start up `?

We need more info here mate

More importantly if it is a 500 which image was it running

If its a clone and your running Gemini it may be that the bootloader has been deleted. This will require Jtagging if this is the case :(

If it isn't a software problem i would say that your power supply unit may have packed up.

If its a 500, 600 or 800 you can get replacement PSUs quite easy off ebay or direct from Dream Multimedia.

If its a 5620, 7000, 7020 or 7025 you may have to send it back to DMM to be repaired :-DOH2

The Fortec Star receivers weren't bad in their day but there isn't a huge amount of support for them now

You can try googling AL7BAR which if i remember rightly used to do modified firmware for those boxes many moons ago, don't know if that is still the case :toke:

I doubt if you Fortec star will open much at all now in all honesty

I used to use the AL7BAR site for my old Fortec Star Lifetime Classic. I had to get rid of it once the support faded out :)

My box is a 7020 si. And thank you I never though about trying the lead that goes into the back of it. Just another question, I don't think I'm making the most of it any idea's how I can do this
??

There is a good dreambox guide on this site.

Read it and ask if You are unsure

Good luck with the power unit

Not sure what do you mean by getting the most of it, but when and if you get it to work again, you can use several plugins that will give you more functions:
1 - TuxMail to receive abd send e-mail messages, view them on your TV screen (mainly text)
2 - Simple web browser
3 - Bitrate monitor to check the quality of the channels (encrypted and FTA)
4 - TuxCommander to let you view and edit text lines
5 - If you haven't got a HDD installed, then install one to enable you to record progrmms.
6 - Miscellaneous plugins to suit your needs and taste.
