Dream Elite Black Hole image - All dreamboxes

My Satellite Setup
2xDM7025(DVB-S tuner), DM600SPVR, DM800S, DM500S HD, Triax 90cm with MultiBracket 4 sats.
My Location
Europe
After being told I would get my DM500HD within a week, I started looking around for images for it, only to discover there are not many at the moment as it is too new.
In the hunt I discovered the Dream Elite image, which is available for all E2 dreamboxes. I am currently using it on the DM500HD, but I will also try it soon on my DM800 as it is the most complete image I have seen yet.
You can have a look on their website and it shows some of the features, but you will have to install it to appreciate the full richness of this image. The off-the-shelf installation will most likely do everything most people want, but it has a full compliment of addons. It also seems very stable - I have had only 1 crash in the first 24 hours while I have been fiddling (not the best time to test stability I know).

I highly recommend you at least have a look at this image.:D
 
Thanks for the tip mate, I think I'm gonna set up my DM800 on a dual boot , I've been meaning to do it for a while for testing purposes. I'm gonna leave my 8000 on nabilo for now as I've got it all tip top..
 
B16MCC: You have to be a bit careful when dual booting with the current images. It seems that the Linux/Enigma repositories have had new versions added recently, some of which make the boxes less stable (notably remote control issues). A mismatch of the Enigma with the Linux kernel can, of course, cause instability. I even avoid saving my settings when I install a new image(not upgrade) as who knows what has happened to the layout of some of the structures that store the information and mismaps in this area can cause serious instability. So I load all my images in flash - I know it is extra work, but at least you know all the bits are compatibile.
What we need is a proper dual boot solution that doesn't only intervene at the second stage, but actually loads the ENTIRE new image, including kernel and drivers. Barry Allen is NOT such a solution, it is a second stage solution.
Also note that most images now state that they will not look at problems when dual booting.
 
Yeah I did notice that mate. I guess I'll just flash my 800 to check out the image. Looking at the forum it seems it's the same or very similar team to Nabilosat. I wonder if its a break away faction or simply a new parallel venture.

Anyway, I've updated the Image threads in the Dreambox Downloads section to include this new image for all the E2 boxes. You can now grab it directly from Satellites !
 
Just to add, this image is also available for the VU+ Duo. :) I installed it at lunch time but didnt have time to play around with it yet.

I had wondered about the use of the Black Hole image name. You could be right
 
Is it ok for clones?
 
uPDATE: I have tried it on the DM800 and it is not the same as on DM500S HD. I will now do the updates and see whether it just needs updating. So before anybody tries on Dm800 wait for my update, unless you want to have a look at it yourself. I repeat, however, the DM800 version is nothing like the DM500S HD version. This is quite strange as both are E2 and can be built from the same code base with just a different toolchain.
I don't know about clones and I am not interested either - I only buy genuine dreamboxes.
 
I have wrote a brief review of the image after installing it on my 800 yesterday. You can find my review in the 800 section.
 
I have had Dream Elite in the flash of my 800 since the day it was released and have never had a problem.
My VU + Duo is due any day so I will let you know how it goes.

If Shumifan wants to buy a genuine box, thats upto him. It has nothing to do with you.

There are somethings that can be said about buying the Genuine item just as much as there is about buying a clone. Some people just like to know they have the support they want.

Have you ever tried sending a faulty Clone back to China. Its cheaper just to bin it and buy another. This is not the case with the genuine article.

And before you say it i have had both genuine & non genuine boxes so i'm speaking from experience. I've never had a shody built genuine DM as of yet.

Some of the clones have been excellent where as others have been really badly put together and just look cheap and nasty although i wouldn't not say i won't buy one if needed.

:confused:I installed Dream Elite on my DM800 and it worked fine 'out of the box'. However, the version of Rytec's EPG was out of date and still refered to his old download website, causing 'connection failed' errors, so I thought I will update the software to the latest versions (even though I had just downloaded the image). I did the update, which updated 18 components, and lost all the image functionality. It looks like it went back to the basic Dream Multimedia image; no Cams or any extentions and the skin went back to VERY basic. I will try again, but can somebody else do the software update and report whether they had the same problem.
 
I was just asking as many peeps run clones.All he had to say was "no,it's not suitable for clones" instead of the 'arrogant' way in which he put it.

Frankly, "I don't know about clones and I am not interested either - I only buy genuine dreamboxes." does not sound arrogant to me. Some people have their opinions about clones, and that is their own thing. Nobody is condemning you for buying a clone, and nobody is condemning schumi for not being interested in clones. Just remember to keep it friendly at all times, ok? It's a hobby :)
 
I have confirmed that SoftwareManager is a bit of a problem with these images on the DM800.

The software manager is not a problem as long as you know how to use it.

You have to remember that it is intended for cvs images such as OoZoon and not modified images that the teams make for you.

These images are made to be fully functional with all the addons for the basic user who likes to leave alone what is not broken which is what most users will do.

There are very few benefits of updating the software every few days unless you have a particular problem. I have had Dream Elite image running for almost 2 months with no problems.

So to conclude the software manager is not a problem but I would advise you not to use it unless you know what you are doing or you know exactly what you expect after you have used it.
 
I've had this image running on my VU+ Duo for the past two days. I've read some complaints about it being a little sluggish but I cant say that I've noticed. To me it seems to run quickly enough, though I've yet to try to push it with multiple simultaneous recordings.

This image is very similar to Nabilosats Black Hole image. I set up MeoBoot and installed Nabilosat Black Hole on USB for comparison. On the surface the only difference I can see between the images is that the DreamElite image hasn't quite got all the features of the Nabilosat one yet. Some of the menu items are not populated yet. They are identical in almost every other way.

Stability has been fine so far. The only crash I had was when I installed a skin that was intended for DM8000 use only.
 
Thanks for the feedback compufunk, for now only use the default skin, the other skins in the server have only been tested on the Dreambox.

I would appreciate any other feed back you have for the team.
 
Sonic, When I seen "FOR DM8000 ONLY", I just had to try it. :)

The downloads panel seems to be getting stocked up nicely with plugins, addons etc.

I forgot to mention that I am having trouble with audio on DivX, MKV files, but I see that this has already been noted by the DreamElite team.
